Freshman Institute

Welcome to the Freshman Institute: The ideal entrance to studying in Germany for international students from all over the world.

Our flexible entrance requirements offer many students a unique gateway to studying in Germany, even if they normally do not meet the admission requirements to German universities.

Many roads lead to success.
After the Freshman program students have many options to continue in a Bachelor's program at a German university.

Would you like to study in Germany, even if you don’t speak German?
This may be possible if you have a good basic knowledge of English!

(Of course, if you already have a basic understanding of German, we also have options for you.)

No matter what your language skills are, it is often hard to begin studying at a German university if you have graduated from secondary school in a country outside of Europe.

The FH Aachen - University of Applied Sciences can help make your admission to the German university system significantly easier.

Admission to the Freshman Year

There are two ways to be admitted to the Freshman program:

  • You take our Freshman “Entrance Test,” either in English or in German, based on what you wish to study.  This test is usually available in your home country. (see below for details)
  • You already are eligible to study in a preparatory year (Studienkolleg) in Germany according to http://anabin.kmk.org/ with very good grades in mathematics and physics. Physics is not required for Business applicants. In this case you are not required to take our entrance test.

After Admission to the Freshman Year

We will assist you in getting  a student visa for Germany.
During your Freshman year you will improve your language, technical and practical skills to prepare you for your future field of study.

The Freshman year 2013/2014 will start on 14 October 2013.

After the Freshman Year

After you successfully complete the Freshman year, you can continue your studies in one of the Bachelor’s programs for which we have prepared you at a university in North Rhine-Westphalia.
In the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia there are a limited number of Bachelor's degree programs that start in English (see Program). Of course, there are many more that are offered completely in German.
The very best students may be granted scholarships at the end of the Freshman year.
We will help you with your application to universities in North Rhine-Westphalia and other German states.
