The Master's programs below are taught completely in English and are open to both German and international students.

These Master’s programs are all 4 semester (two year) programs, however, some students may need an additional semester to complete their degree.  Some international students may need longer due to cultural adjustments to Germany and the German university system.

Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical engineering is a multidisciplinary field in which the principles of engineering are applied to solving problems in biology or medicine. It applies quantitative, analytical, and integrative methods from the molecular level to that of the whole organism. This broadens our understanding of basic biological processes and enables us to develop innovative approaches for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease.  Students learn to apply engineering concepts to scientific and practical problems in biology, medicine, and health care.

The focus of the program is on

  • Artificial Organs and Cardiovascular Engineering
  • Biomechanics
  • Biophysics and Medical Physics
  • Biosensors, Chemical Sensors
  • Medical Informatics

For more information, see the Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering homepage.

Master of Science in Energy Systems

The whole topic of energy is approached in its broadest sense, as research and development in this area overlap considerably with several classical areas of the natural sciences and engineering.  From fuel cells to nuclear technology, from solar architecture to biological energy processes, there are experts available to contribute to the education of interested young people from all over the world. As well as the technical problems of energy conversion and energy efficiency, above all, the general problems of the economics of world energy production, affordability, the relationship between energy and the environment and the sustainability of energy systems are important topics to be covered.

The focus of the program is on

  • Basics for Energy Systems
  • Mathematical Tools and Simulation
  • Sustainable Energy Systems and Energy Economics
  • Industrial Energy Technology
  • Modelling of Systems and Processes
  • Management- systems and Business Administration

For more information, see the Master of Science in Energy Systems homepage.

European Master of Science in Nuclear Applications

The European Master of Science in Nuclear Applications (EMiNA) is designed to educate students in applications of nuclear techniques, with the emphasis on practical application of scientific principles. Nuclear techniques are presntly being used in fields as diversified as agriculture, aerospace engineering, medicine, biotechnology, chemical engineering, power generation, material science, metallurgy, and nanotechnology, in addition to biogeochemistry.

The focus of the program is

  • Radiation measurement
  • Production of Radionuclides
  • Radiolabelling
  • Tracer technologies science, biology, and medicine
  • Nuclear probes in material science and material testing
  • Imaging techniques
  • Nuclear Technology
  • Radionuclides in the environment
  • Radiation Safety

The European Master of Science in Nuclear Applications program starting in March is only open to applicants with previous knowledge in the nuclear field.  Applicants from other fields of study should apply for the program starting in September.

For more information, see the European Master of Science in Nuclear Applications homepage.
