Ophthalmic Optics and Optometry is still a classic apprenticeship occupation in Germany. So far, most of the more than 6,000 apprentices in the optician trade in Germany every year have been learning their profession in a dual manner: in the optician company and at vocational schools.
FH Aachen, with its Faculty of Medical Technology and Technomathematics, as well as the ZVA Bildungszentrum, the Master School of the Central Association of Ophthalmic Opticians and Optometrists, have joined forces for a cooperation in order to push ahead with the, as of yet, still not really widespread academisation in NRW. Because the advantages are considerable: With a university degree under your belt, you can climb the career ladder much more easily. There are also no obstacles to changing jobs abroad, as studying is common in many countries and is, therefore, a standard requirement for applicants. However, research is particularly important: Only those who have learned scientific work at university can carry out sound research work. This is, in fact, becoming more and more important in optometry. This is why FH Aachen has been offering a dual study programme in Ophthalmic Optics and Optometry (extra-occupational) since the winter semester 2016/17.
Combine your job and your studies: You work as an optician or optometrist - and earn a Bachelor of Science at the same time!
Applications are only accepted for the summer semester!
