Medical equipment such as heart-lung machines, dialysis machines or infusion pumps support them in doing this. Whether artificial joints or synthetic organs: Doctors must be able to rely one hundred percent on the quality of the medical technology products they implant into their patients. Nowadays, medicine without technology is unthinkable. Technicians and engineers are constantly advancing research in the field of biomedical technology. After all, the objective is to save human lives and to improve the quality of life.
Biomedical technology has developed into a key global technology. It builds on the foundations of engineering sciences and combines medical, technical and biological expertise. Only interdisciplinary cooperation can enable scientists to develop tailor-made solutions to the problems arising from the increasing mechanisation of medicine. Biomedical technology is one of the most innovative industries in Germany. But that's not all: By global standards, Germany is the third-largest producer of medical technology goods - behind the USA and Japan.
