The Degree Program

Program Outline

The master program Engineering Management (discipline: Mechanical Engineering) is open for graduates with a bachelor degree in Engineering Management or a similar business-and-engineering-oriented program and leads to the master degree (Master of Science) upon successful completion.

The master program is carried out in close cooperation between the Faculty of Business Sciences (FB7) and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics (FB8). The latter is responsible for its organization.

The studies' focus has been laid on the professional challenges that the middle management in internationally working, manufacturing technology companies is faced with.

The already in the bachelor program obtained knowledge and skills in business, mechanical engineering, production, logistics and technical sales are further extended in the master program by management competencies as well as more special sound expertise about development and production procedures that are essential for successfully accomplishing managerial tasks in technology companies.

The already in the bachelor program acquired skills in communication, presentation and team work are further improved and upgraded in the master program Engineering Management through modules that are often taught as seminars.

Students of the master program learn to examine theoretical and scientific insights, evaluate them critically and apply them by tackling real issues in the world of work.

Career Prospects

The integrated combination of engineering and business studies provides excellent career opportunities in a broad area of employment, ranging from production, purchase, and logistics to controlling, marketing and sales, as well as to quality, project and product management or environmental protection.

Since engineering managers work closely together with scientists, engineers, computer specialists, economists, lawyers and other experts, they are familiar with their working methods and their way of thinking. Unlike most specialists who are focused on a special area, engineering managers are able to understand a company as a whole. Solving cross-disciplinary problems is their main task which makes them apt for management positions in technology companies.
