Acceptance of Internship

Acceptance of Internship

An 8-week internship, according to our internship guidelines, is obligatory before beginning studies at our department.

For the internship acceptance you have to send us your internship documents (certificate of the company + 8-page internship report). Contact persons are: Study Program Coordination and Theresa Ludwig.

Information for the start of studies in winter semester 2020/21:

Due to the current corona situation, an internship is not necessary for a study start in WS 2020/21. The internship does not apply and does not have to be made up for/replaced.

 

Preliminary Courses and Introduction

Important Dates in the First Semester

  • Compulsory block course "Mathematical Foundations for Engineering Sciences" (13.09.-24.09.21)
  • Compulsory for First Semester Students: Self-Management in Studies (date to follow)

Details of whether the courses will be held online or in attendance on-site are still to be announced.


 

Preliminary Course in Mathematics

The preliminary course is designed for all first-year students of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering. Within the framework of the preliminary course, topics of school mathematics are revisited and refreshed and, in addition, fundamental mathematical principles are taught. In this way, the preliminary course bridges the gap between school mathematics and university mathematics. Furthermore, it offers students the opportunity to get to know the university, teaching staff and fellow students in advance.

Morning lectures and exercises on the various topics take place in a large group. In the afternoons, tutorials are offered where the material covered can be studied in greater depth in smaller groups.
The tutorials will probably take place in the afternoon from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. More detailed information will be provided in the course.

Course "Mathematical Foundations for Engineering Sciences

The course "Mathematical Foundations for Engineering Sciences", MGI for short (Mathematische Grundlagen für Ingenieurwissenschaften), is an advanced course which serves as a basis for later modules in the degree programme. The contents of MGI are required in the module "Mathematics 1" as well as passing the written examination at the end of the course. Participation in the course is voluntary, whereas the written exam is compulsory.

For self-assessment, you will receive some sample problems with solutions on topics that you will be taught in the preliminary course and knowledge of which is a prerequisite in the "Mathematical Foundations" examination and later in the "Mathematics 1" module.


Registration for the courses is only necessary for "Self-Management in Studies"!

Information on the Dual Degree Programme


Starting from winter WS 2014/2015 students of International Automotive Engineering are offered the opportunity to acquire a double degree as part of a 4-semester course. Credits gained at the respective partner university are mutually recognized, which leads to the Master's degree from two universities. A cooperation with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Melbourne / Australia has been established.

The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) is an Australian university of technology and design based in Melbourne, Victoria. RMIT was founded in 1887 as the Working Men's College of Melbourne. The university is among the best ranked in Australia and has an enrolment of around 82,000 students.

Basically, all students have the option available, but the stay in Melbourne is connected with tuition fees. Currently, these are in Australian $ 32,640 per year, which corresponds to about € 22,338. There are scholarships available. Full details can be found here.

As part of the cooperation agreement of the Master's program annually a limited number of scholarships in the amount of Australian tuition fee will be available. The awarding of these scholarships will be decided in a selection process of the Department of Aeronautical Engineering. The students of the Aachen Master's program "International Automotive Engineering" will be informed regarding application deadlines and criteria.
