Synergetic Automotive and Aerospace Engineering
The competence platform ( KOPF for short) "Synergetic Automotive & Aerospace Engineering" ( SAAE for short) is the interdisciplinary merger of several programme focal points from four faculties at FH Aachen under the leadership of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering:
- Faculty 4: Design
- Faculty 5: Electrical Engineering and Information Technology
- Faculty 6: Aerospace Engineering
- Faculty 8: Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics
Objectives and procedure of KOPF SAAE
The goals
The "Synergetic Automotive & Aerospace Engineering" competence platform aims to:
- Bundling, profiling and sustainable establishment of existing research competences
- Ensuring practice-orientated teaching and application-oriented research
- Rapid realisation of scientific results for the development of marketable technologies
- technologies
- Intensifying transfer-orientated research to strengthen the regional economy
- Increasing expertise and available infrastructures
- Facilitation of co-operative doctorates
FH Aachen offers research and development work within the framework of small and medium-sized R&D projects. Four aspects of our process organisation should make our offer particularly attractive to you:
- You have one contact who will put together the right specialists and optimal methods and equipment to solve your task.
- The responsible professors are prepared to respond quickly to your enquiry and, depending on the urgency, to process it within the shortest possible deadline.
- We offer you fair pricing with fixed price offers, which we calculate on the basis of favourable hourly or daily rates.
- We actively support you in the preparation of application forms for project applications in current funding programmes.
Advantages of co-operation
- Compilation of individual competence teams to suit the task at hand
- Strengthening in the processing of complex topics
- Short information paths through networked work
- Synergy potential through multidisciplinary use of university expertise and infrastructure
- Standardised reference by summarising the results of all project participants on the platform (individual information available through filter functions)
- Targeted improvement of technical equipment
- Utilisation of external contacts of members
Work steps for implementation
- Expansion of national and international contacts with industry and research institutions
- Establishment of new Master's degree programmes
- Increased presence of the programme focus at conferences, congresses, trade fairs and seminars
- Acquisition of projects
- Offering further education and training events
- Continuous expansion of technical equipment and facilities
Programme focus
Focal points
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts - the joint effects of different branches of industry lead to results that go beyond the sum of the individual achievements.
Both the automotive and aviation industries have the same interests in saving resources and energy and increasing safety for people and the environment. The technology transfer between the two industries takes place in the area of product development and the corresponding processes and basically comprises the following programme topics:
- Conservation of the environment and resources
- Energy saving issues
- Reduction of climate-relevant and harmful pollutants
- Reduction of noise emissions
- Innovative drive technologies
- Lightweight construction and innovative vehicle concepts
- Development and efficient use of design and simulation tools
- simulation tools
Improving security
- Options for avoiding road accidents (active safety)
- Reducing the risk to people in the event of accidents (passive safety)
- Transferring methods of simulation and assessment of safety-relevant system properties developed in aerospace to terrestrial vehicles and vice versa
- Application of mechatronic systems to increase vehicle safety
- Support through information and assistance systems
- Utilisation of synergy effects from aerospace in sensor technology, actuator technology, control technology and in the field of human factors in road safety
Services and tools
services
The "Synergetic Automotive & Aerospace Engineering" competence platform has set itself the task of supporting companies in the development of new marketable products, processes and services by utilising the results of research and development. This technology transfer brings technology owners together with players from industry in order to utilise these technologies in production and value creation. In the long term, this co-operation has a positive effect on competitiveness and market success. The transfer centre of the competence platform provides support in the form of
- Consultancy
- Development of solutions
- Realisation of projects
- Utilisation of equipment
- Support in the procurement of public funding
- Events for the exchange of information between science and industry
It goes without saying that trade secrets and confidentiality are protected during developments and project work.
Interdisciplinary cooperation and modern laboratory equipment enable complex tasks to be solved at a high level. Rapid and reliable processing is a matter of course for us. The professors and staff working in the faculties have many years of experience in the realisation of publicly funded and privately financed research and development projects in cooperation with companies from many industries.
Tools
The teaching and research areas involved in the competence platform have detailed knowledge of the industrial application of the following CAx tools:
- RAMSIS (ergonomics and package)
- LS-DYNA and RADIOSS (crash calculations)
- ANSYS and IDEAS Simulation (FEM code)
- HYPERMESH (meshing, pre- & post-processing)
- OPTISTRUCT (structural optimisation)
- CATIA V4 and V5 (CAD, DMU, kinematics, etc....)
- IDEAS (CAD, kinematics)
- EAI Vis Plus (DMU)
- ALIAS (Design)
- SIMPACK (MKS)
- SABER (mechatronic lumped element simulation)
- FLUENT (CFD)
- MATLAB/SIMULINK and LabView
- GT-Drive (vehicle longitudinal dynamics)
- dSpace (hardware-in-the-loop simulation)
- Access to Cave-VRCA (Virtual Reality Centre Aachen of RWTH Aachen University)
