Preparatory courses

In a business degree programme, mathematical and bookkeeping skills are necessary. If you want to freshen up your school knowledge, you have the opportunity to attend preparatory courses. The courses begin ahead of the official start of lectures and are volontary.

University account

The university account is the user account for all centralised access-restricted services at FH Aachen. A universitry account is set up for every student. After registration, you will receive your login details from the Registrar's Office, with which you can release your account. After the release, it may take about 24 hours before you can use your university account and your university email address.

The university account serves as authentification for logging on to the FH network, e.g. in the computer labs, for email and WiFi. Moreover, you will need the account to register for preparatory courses or courses during the semester.

The university communicates with you exclusively via your university email address. According to the matriculation regulations you are obligated to check your email account provided by FH Aachen regularly (at least once a day) to receive documents or messages.

On the web pages of the Datenverarbeitungszentrale (Data Processing Centre) you will i.a. receive information about the various forms of authentication, the release and the different account settings.

WiFi on the campus

In the whole area of FH Aachen you have free access to the WiFi network eduroam. Sign on with your personal user data.

Information on recognition

Recognition of internships (+++not applicable for applications for the winter semester 2020/2021+++)
In addition to the university entrance qualification, proof of an eight-week internship is required for admission to the degree programme Business Studies. If you have not yet completed your internship at the time of application, you must submit a certificate confirming that you will complete the internship before the start of studies (=start of lectures). You must enclose this certificate with your application for admission or your application for enrolment. At the latest at the beginning of your studies you have to submit a certificate of the complete internship with the of recognition of the Faculty of Business Studies to the registrar's office of the FH Aachen.

In the Internship Guidelines you will find all important information about duration, contents, requirements for the certificate.

The internship can be omitted if you have completed a relevant vocational training. In this case, please present your diploma from the vocational school when you enrol.

Recognition of internships

During the enrolment period, internships are recognized at the Faculty of Business Studies on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 12 a.m. Please contact Silke Speuser (Room E214), Melanie Reinders (Room E212), Lilith Deutz (Room E213). Please bring either an original and a copy or a certified copy of your internship certificate with you, as the stamped copy will remain in the registrar's office.

If you are not able to do the recognition in person or through a representative, please send either an original and a copy or a certified copy with a stamped envelope addressed to you to the following address:

Recognition of Business English
The examination office recognises exams taken at a vocational college or business and administration as study achievements if the following conditions are proved by certificate or any other document of the vocational college.

  1. It must be clearly recognisable that it is an exam of Business English.
  2. The competence level obtained according to the European competence framework for languages must be specified  and at least level B1 and/or B2 and/or C1 (for study programme Business Studies) or  level B2 and/or C1 (for the study programme International Business Studies 3 years - English speaking programme) must be proved.
  3. A mark must have been given.
  4. The certificate must not be older than two years at the time of recognition.

Other exams from vocational education are not recognised as study achievements.

If you want to file an application for the recognition of Business English submit the relevant proofs in original and copy to Melanie Reinders (room 212), Lilith Deutz (room 213) or Silke Speuser (room 214).

Recognition of other exams
You are transferring from another university and have already completed your studies at another university?If so, these modules may be recognised in accordance with the german Hochschulgesetz, the general examination regulations and the examination regulations for the respective degree programme.
Please submit an application to the examination board of the Faculty of Business Studies for the recognition of exams earned elsewhere. After taking the examination at the FH Aachen, recognition is no longer possible.

Please submit the following documents per application for recognition:
> Completely filled out application form
> Copy of transcript of records
> Module description

In addition, please submit a stamped transcript of records in the original.
Please submit the applications at least 6 weeks before the application deadline. Otherwise we cannot guarantee that your applications will be processed in time.

If you are applying for a higher semester in the degree programme Business Studies, you must also provide proof of an eight-week business internship. You will find information on this above (+++not applicable for applications for the winter semester 2020/2021+++).

You do not need an internship for the degree programmes Business Law, Global Business and Economics or International Business Studies.

Orientation week

Study, city and university life

The orientation week before the beginning of studies is lots of fun. It is organised by senior students, who are getting involved in the student council and as freshers' tutors. This way you can get to know the university and the city of Aachen and make first contacts with your fellow students. Due to the Corona hygiene and safety regulations, the welcome days during the orientation week are staggered in small groups. Please note that prior registration in CampusOffice is therefore necessary. Please refer to CampusOffice to find out when this is possible.

Following the on-site greetings, the student council organises city rallies in small groups.

Via the Facebook group "FH Aachen Erstis Wirtschaftswissenschaften Wintersemester 2020/21" you can get in touch with your fellow students even before you start your studies.There are Whatsapp groups depending on the degree programme you can join as well. The link to the respective group will be sent to you by email.

Fresher's helpers team

Do you have questions regarding time table, exam registration, CampusOffice etc.?

Besides the Academic Counselling service, the freshers' helpers team will be happy to assist you. Students of higher semesters answer your questions and support you at the beginning of studies.

Mentor programme

The Faculty of Business Studies appoints a professor as a personal mentor for every undergraduate student in a business study scheme at the beginning of studies for the mentoring of the first and second semesters. You will know the name of your personal mentor by email.

The mentors offer individual and group discussions, especially regarding choice of study, study compentency and study organisation.
