Dean's Office | Faculty Management

The dean's office manages the faculty and coordinates its ongoing development. 

Among other things, its tasks comprise the representation of the faculty within the university, the responsibilty for the curriculum, the organisaton of exams as well as staffing and allocation of funds. The dean's office consists of the dean and the vice deans and is re-elected every four years.

Prof. Dr. Meike Utzerath

Prof. Dr. rer. pol. Meike Utzerath

Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies

After studying business administration at the University of Cologne, Meike Utzerath began to work as a tax consultant assistant at the Cologne office of Ernst & Young GmbH (EY) in 2002. In 2005, she was appointed as a tax consultant and from 2006 to 2009, while working at the Chair of General Business Administration and Business Taxation at the University of Cologne, she completed her doctorate (Dr. rer. pol.) under Prof. Dr. Norbert Herzig on the topic of "Accounting for deferred taxes in business mergers". From 2010 to 2012, she was a member of the EY National Office, where she was responsible for clarifying fundamental issues for the Tax Accounting and Risk Advisory area. From 2012, Meike Utzerath was the senior manager, from 2013 director for the development of software solutions for the calculation of current and deferred taxes as well as the preparation of the tax balance sheet, corporate income tax, trade tax and VAT. In 2015, she was appointed professor of business studies with a focus on taxation at the FH Aachen - University of Applied Sciences. Since then, she has also worked as a self-employed tax consultant in the field of developing tax reporting systems and providing tax advice to private individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises. Before taking office as Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies in September 2021, she had been Vice Dean for Studies and Teaching since 2016.

 

Prof. Dr. rer. pol. Andreas Bernecker

Vice Dean for Studies and Teaching

Andreas Bernecker studied economics at the University of Mannheim from 2006 to 2011 with semesters abroad in Copenhagen (Denmark) and Berkeley (California, USA). During his studies, he worked as an Economic and European Policy Analyst at Deutsche Bank AG in Frankfurt/Main and as a speechwriter in the executive staff at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Berlin. After graduation he was a research assistant at the University of Mannheim, where he completed his doctorate in the field of empirical political economy. During his doctorate he was, among other things, a visiting researcher at the Ifo Institute in Munich and a scientific advisor at the European Central Bank in Frankfurt am Main. In 2014, after successfully completing his doctorate, Andreas Bernecker worked as a strategy consultant at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants in Berlin. From 2015 to 2018, he worked as a strategy consultant and project manager at McKinsey & Company in Cologne. In 2018, he was appointed Professor of Economics at FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences. In addition to teaching, he is involved as a liason lecturer of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom and as co-editor of the Aachener Online-Schriften Wirtschaft und Recht. Since 2019, he has been working as a freelance strategy consultant, trainer and speaker alongside his work at the faculty. Since September 2021, he has been Vice Dean for Studies and Teaching at the Faculty of Business Studies.

 

Prof. Dr. rer. pol. Bettina Schneider

Vice Dean for Finance

Bettina Schneider studied economics at the Technical University of Braunschweig from 1983 to 1985 and business administration at the Georg-August University of Göttingen from 1985 to 1988. She then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Accounting and Auditing of Private and Public Companies at the Georg-August University of Göttingen from 1988 to 1993. In 1993, she received her doctorate from the Georg-August University of Göttingen with a thesis on the distribution of profits and losses in a general partnership. From 1993 to 2000 Bettina Schneider worked for PwC Deutsche Revision AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft in Frankfurt/Main, most recently as Senior Manager in the Corporate Finance Department. In 1996 she passed her examination as a tax consultant, followed by her examination and appointment as a chartered accountant (proxy) in 1998. In September 2000, she was appointed Professor of Business Studies with a focus on accounting at the FH Aachen. Since 2012, she has been Vice Dean for Finance at the Faculty of Business Studies at FH Aachen - University of Applied Sciences.

 

Dipl.-Vw. Melanie Reinders

Vice Dean for Research Assistants

After studying economics at the University of Dortmund, Melanie Reinders moved to Brussels in 2003. There she first worked at the EC Coordination Office of the Science Organisations in the area of European research funding. In 2004, she changed to the European Commission, where she worked as a personal assistant in the Directorate-General "Information Society and Media", supporting various project managers and department heads. Since February 2011, Melanie Reinders has been working at the FH Aachen at the Faculty of Business Studies. As part of the changeover from the diploma degree programme to the Bachelor's and Master's system, she supervised the Master's degree programmes and contributed to the expansion of international university cooperation. Since September 2017, she has been in charge of the Academic Counselling Service and the examinations office of the Faculty of Business Studies and has been Vice Dean for Research Assistants since September 2021.

 

Thomke Dekker

Student Vice Dean

After her A levels with a focus on economics at the vocational Gymnasium Wildeshausen in 2016, Thomke Dekker completed an apprenticeship as a bank clerk at the Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg. She then did a stay abroad as an au pair in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. In 2019, she decided to study "Business Studies" at the FH Aachen - University of Applied Sciences, focusing on the area of human resources management as part of her specialisation studies. Since September 2021, she is Student Vice Dean at the Faculty of Business Studies. Previously, she was a member of the examination board of the Faculty of Business Studies. In addition to her appointment as student vice dean, she works as a student assistant in the examination office and is a student member of the quality improvement commission at FH Aachen - University of Applied Sciences.
