At the moment, approximately 1300 students are enrolled in national and international degree programs at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics (faculty 8). In addition to courses held by its 23 professors, the faculty offers also courses of professors from other faculties and universities. Lecturers from the industry give courses in required and elective subjects as well as extracurricular courses.
Qualified laboratory staff takes care of the faculty's 22 laboratories. Additionally, a mechanical and an electronic workshop support the laboratories in manufacturing components and systems for trainings, study projects, theses as well as research projects.
An ever increasing number of students take advantage of the opportunity to complete an internship in a foreign country or to study a semester abroad at one of the approximately 130 partner universities of the FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences. Fortunately, the number of foreign students (incoming exchange students or full-time students), who come to Aachen and attend our faculty's courses, is rising as well. The faculty supports the internationalization in academic teaching by offering courses and master degree programs in English as well as language courses during semesters.
The faculty continues to grow. It started 100 years ago to train engineers in a building on Goethestrasse that has been completely reconstructed and extended (read more about the faculty's history). New locations on Hohenstaufenallee and Eupener Strasse followed later. In the future, the faculty will benefit from the "KMAC", the new Aachen Competence Center for Mobility. Within the framework of the program for expansion of the Land of Nordrhine-Westphalia's university landscape, the FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences has set up several new degree programs with relation to mobility, e.g. the bachelor degree program Rail Vehicle Technology in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics. In order to cover the new degree programs' need for additional rooms and to enable the faculty to handle the growing number of student enrolments, a new building will be errected at 10 Hohenstaufenallee. It will not only provide offices, laboratories and seminar rooms for the new degree programs, but also lecture halls (the biggest auditorium will have 350 seats) and a new refectory.
