You've got a business idea, you've built up your start-up team, you've already put your vision to paper?

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) wants to strengthen the innovation potential of start-ups in the field of cutting-edge research on human-technology interaction (HTI). To this end, two approaches are being pursued. On the one hand, the opportunities for founding start-ups are to be improved by targeted funding of suitable research teams at universities and research institutions (Module 1). On the other hand, young start-ups that have already been set up are to be supported in a tailored manner in high-risk pre-competitive research and development (R&D) (Module 2). The objective is to provide tailor-made foundation and start-up funding for the HTI sector.

The EXIST-Gründerstipendium (Start-up Grant) supports students, graduates and scientists from universities and non-university research institutions who wish to turn their start-up ideas into a business plan. This should involve innovative, technology-oriented or knowledge-based start-up projects with good prospects of economic success. The new EXIST programme is to give additional impetus to start-up activities in Germany in the field of innovative and knowledge-based business start-ups. For the first time since 2007, the EXIST-Gründerstipendium which provides a means of securing a livelihood during the pre- and immediate start-up phase, has been increased by approx. 25 percent. The materials and investment funds for projects in this programme line are almost doubled for team start-ups.
One of the up to three team members can be supported with qualified professional training as a technical employee or the academic degree of a team member can date back more than five years. However, the majority of the team must continue to consist of academically trained founders and be based on scientific preliminary work.
