What does Psychosocial Counselling (PSB) offer?

PSB supports students in coping with personal and study-related difficulties or with preparing for challenging study and life phases. The objective of counselling is to activate your abilities to change your situation and to support you in overcoming the crisis situations on your own.

In general, you will be given an appointment for an initial consultation within a few days up to a maximum of 2 weeks. In a quiet and confidential atmosphere, the interview will provide a clearer understanding of your problem. We will discuss what you hope to gain from counselling and to what extent PSB can be of help.

Often, a one-time conversation with a neutral expert already helps organise thoughts and find a solution. If necessary, counselling can comprise up to 6 appointments. Should our resources prove insufficient, we will offer you support in finding suitable contact points or a therapy place.

Consultations are free of charge and absolutely confidential. On request, conversations can also take place in English.

Which topics are frequently addressed?

  • Learning difficulties and concentration disorders
  • Problems with self-structuring and organisation of studies
  • Feelings of being overwhelmed and stress
  • Examination anxieties and fears of failure
  • Self-esteem problems and self-doubt
  • Social difficulties (e.g. conflicts with parents, partner or friends, loneliness)
  • Alcohol, drugs, excessive use of PC
  • Feelings of sadness, depressive moods
  • Worries and anxieties in daily life
  • Information on psychotherapy
  • etc.

Two more remarks

1. For many students, it is difficult to seek psychological counselling. Perhaps realising that with early support you will be able to move forward all the more quickly on your own again, will help you in this regard.

 

2. We try to offer all students that seek help an appointment as soon as possible. In order to be able to do this, however, we need your cooperation: An individual appointment means that we reserve one hour for you and only you! If you do not keep the agreed upon appointment and do not inform us in due time that you are prevented from coming, we cannot assign the appointment to another person. This leads to significantly longer waiting times for you and your fellow students.
