Admission requirements are conditions to be fulfilled in order to get admission to university. These include pre-study practical training, language skills and aptitude tests. Here are the answers to your questions.

The requirements vary depending on the degree programme. You will find the specific requirements for a degree programme in the respective examination regulations.

Bachelor's degree programmes require a university entrance qualification. There may be further equirements, such as completing a pre-study practical training and/or an aptitude test.

In case of dual study programmes, you must have an apprenticeship contract or completed vocational training.

Master's degree programmes have their own admission regulations where the requirements are stipulated.

A maximum of three applications is allowed for admission-restricted degree programmes. This applies to both Bachelor and Master applications. You must individually fill out an application form for each degree programme.

How will I gain admission?

If you have applied for a Bachelor's degree programme without admission restrictions, you will be provided with the letter of admission as a downloadable PDF file at the end of the online registration process. After that, please submit all the documents mentioned in the letter of admission, including the letter of admission, to the Registrar's Office within the deadline specified in the letter of admission.

If you have applied for a Bachelor's degree programme with admission restrictions, your application will be reviewed. After the application deadline has expired and all applications received have been checked, you may receive an offer of admission, which you can accept within the deadline specified in the portal (hochschulstart.de). If you accept the offer, you will receive an email informing you that you have to complete the online registration application in the FH Aachen's application portal (www.hi.fh-aachen.de). At the end of the online registration, you will be provided with your letter of admission as a downloadable pdf file.

The letter of admission will not be sent by postal mail.

If no university place is available for you, you will also be informed of this. This means that as long as no letter of rejection has been uploaded to the portal, it is possible that you will receive an offer of admission.

If you have applied for a degree programme with admission restrictions, your application will be reviewed. After the application deadline has expired and all applications received have been checked, you will be informed by email whether you are eligible for a university place. If so, you will receive an offer of admission, which you can accept within the deadline specified in the portal. If you accept the offer, please complete the online registration, at the end of which you will be provided with your letter of admission as a downloadable PDF file.

If no university place is available for you, you will also be informed of this. This means that as long as you have not received a letter of rejection, it is still possible that you will receive an offer of admission.

Yes, it is! The letter of admission is mandatory for registration. It certifies that a place at the university is available to you. The letter of admission specifies the further steps, the documents required for registration and the deadlines that are binding for you.

You can download the letter of admission from the application portal at any time during the ongoing application phase. If you are no longer able to download the letter of admission, please contact us by email (ssc(at)fh-aachen(dot)de ).

Within the framework of your application, uni-assist.de checks whether you are allowed to study the degree programme of your interest with the respective certificate. No, it doesn't. In order to study at FH Aachen, you need to have the complete Fachhochschulreife. You can see from the certificate of the academic part of the Fachhochschulreife which kind of practical training you have to complete in order to obtain the complete Fachhochschulreife. The practical part of the Fachhochschulreife must be submitted by 30 September/31 March.

The practical part of the Fachhochschulreife must be completed by

                           30 September for degree programmes beginning in the winter semester, and

                           31 March for degree programmes beginning in the summer semester.

Submitting the proof later is not valid and will lead to the revocation of your admission.

For some degree programmes, the pre-study practical training is a requirement for registration in the form of a practical activity. This is not to be confused with the practical part of the Fachhochschulreife.

Welche Ausbildung als Vorpraktikum anerkannt werden kann, hängt vom Studiengang ab. Zwischen der Ausbildung und dem gewählten Studiengang muss eine enge inhaltliche Verbindung bestehen. Ob diese vorliegt, kann das Studierendensekretariat prüfen.

Bitte beachten Sie, dass die Anerkennung einer Ausbildung als Vorpraktikum für jeden Studiengang einzeln geprüft werden muss.

In Studiengängen, in denen ein 8-wöchiges Vorpraktikum gefordert ist, ist dies nicht möglich.Das komplette Vorpraktikum muss in diesem Fall zwingend bis zum 30.9/31.3. vom Fachbereich anerkannt und im Studierendensekretariat nachgewiesen werden.

In Studiengängen, in denen ein 12-wöchiges Vorpraktikum gefordert ist, ist der Nachweis von 8 Wochen zwingend zur Einschreibung bis spätestens zum 30.9/31.3. vorzulegen. Die weiteren 4 Wochen müssen bis zum Beginn des dritten Semesters nachgewiesen werden, ebenso bis zum 30.9./31.3.

Wenn der praktische Teil der Fachhochschulreife den Praktikumsrichtlinien des gewählten Studiengangs entspricht, ist eine Anerkennung möglich. Dies muss vom jeweiligen Ansprechpartner im Fachbereich für die Praktikumsanerkennung geprüft werden.

What does "recognition of practical training" mean?

What does "recognition of practical training" mean?

Pre-Study practical training has to be recognised at the faculty of your degree programme. Recognition confirms that your practical training fulfills all the requirements of the practical training guidelines. This means that recognition must be handled by he faculty, not by your company or school.

Please contact the Student Service Center (SSC) to find out who is responsible for the recognition of your practical training.

Language Skills

I'd like to study a Bachelor's degree programme. By what deadline do I have to submit the proof of German language skills?

I'd like to study a Bachelor's degree programme. By what deadline do I have to submit the proof of German language skills?

Proof of German language skills has to be provided at the time of application and/or at the time of registration.

For Bachelor's degree programmes (except IOS degree programmes and Global Business and Economics), proof of German language skills at DSH-1 level has to be provided at the time of application. In addition to language skills as DSH-1 level, you have to provide proof of being enrolled for the DSH-2 course which has to be completed at the latest on Sept 30/March 31. If you cannot provide such proof at the time of application, a possible admission will be revoked.

At the time of registration, proof of German language skills at DSH-2 level has to be provided. If you submit the required documents during the application process and gain admission, you have to provide proof of your language skills and the DSH-2 course attendance at the time of registration. Only then will you get a deadline extension for submitting the final language skills:

Applications for the summer semester: until March 31, and

Applications for the winter semester:    until September 30

The dates for proof of language skills are individually regulated for Master's degree programmes. They can be found in the respective admission or examination regulations.

Which language certificates are accepted?

TestDaF (4x3), Goethe-Zertifikat B2, and telc Zertifikat B2, are accepted as an equivalent of DSH-1.

TestDaF 4x4, Goethe-Zertifikat C2, and telc Zertifikat C1 Hochschule, are accepted as an equivalent of DSH-2.

Uni Assist evaluates the standard proof of language skills. Should you have different proof of language skills, it will have to be evaluated by the Registrar's Office.
