Bachelor

How do I apply?

Applications for all degree programmes at the FH Aachen take place via our online application portal. There are degree programmes which require a prior registration at hochschulstart.de - after registration there, you have to apply via the FH Aachen application portal as well. Checklists regarding the various application procedures can be found in the application portal.

How do I apply with a foreign university entrance qualification?

Applications with a foreign university entrance qualification take place via uni-assist. Please submit all necessary documents to Uni Assist. After that, Uni Assist will let you know whether you are allowed to study the respective degree programme, i.e. Uni Assist will inform you of the evaluation results. Checklists regarding application procedures are available at Uni Assist.

I'm German. I've obtained my "Abitur" at a German school abroad. Do I have to use uni-assist?

No, you don't. You can/must apply via the university's own application portal.

When do I apply?

With the exception of Betriebswirtschaft/Business Studies, university entrants may only apply for Bachelor's degree programmes in the winter semester.

Can I apply without school leaving certificate?

No, you can't. For the application, you need your school leaving certificate, in case of "Fachabitur" at least the academic part. In the application portal, the date of your full university entrance qualification, including the practical part, has to be specified. The end date of the practical portion is the date that has to be filled in.

At the time of application, I only have the academic part of the university entrance qualification. Which date do I specify in my application as the date of acquisition of the university entrance qualification?

Please specify the date when you will (presumably) complete the entire university entrance qualification, i.e. the practical part.

I've made a mistake in my application. What should I do now?

In the case of an application for a degree programme with restricted admission, or without admission restrictions, changes can only be made via the Registrar's Office (contact via ssc(at)fh-aachen.de ). Please use the email address you have entered in the application portal only.

What happens after I've applied? How will I find out whether I've got a place at university?

If you've applied for a degree programme with no admission restrictions, you will be provided with a downloadable PDF file of your note of admission directly after completing the online registration. After that, please come to the Registrar's Office for student registration within the deadline specified in the letter of admission.

If you've applied for an admission-restricted degree programme, your application will be checked. After the expiration of the application deadline and a review of all submitted applications, you will be notified whether or not a place at university is available for you. If so, you will get an offer of admission which you can accept within the deadline specified in the online portal.  If you accept the offer, please complete the online registration. After completion, you will be provided with a downloadable PDF file of your letter of admission.

How do I apply for a second degree?

How do I apply as a cross-registered student?

Registration

How do I register?

You can only register if you've gained admission and received the note of admission.

For registration, you have to submit your documents to the Registrar's Office. You can either hand them in personally or send it by postal service.

If you send your documents by postal service, please bear in mind that, due to the vast number of documents, it may take a while before you hear from us again. Inquiries do not expedite the processing.

Registrations in person can be carried out at the Registrar's Office during office hours.

I cannot register in person. Can someone else do it for me?

If you cannot show up in person, you can give someone else written authority. The letter of authorisation has to explicitly state which actions this person is allowed to take in your name. As your representative, this person can then carry out your registration. The representative has to prove his or her identity.

Do my registration documents have to be certified?

Please refer to the note of admission to find out which documents have to be submitted with certification.

What happens during registration?

During registration, your documents are checked for correctness and completeness. If everything is in good order, you will be registered as a student.

You will then get your login data for IT services (Ilias, QIS, Campus) at FH Aachen. There, you can download and print out proof of registration and the parking permit, you can enrol in, or withdraw from, courses and examinations, and much more.

Will I get my Semesterticket during registration?

The Semesterticket will be sent to you by ASEAG (the local public transport provider). You will not get this ticket at the Registrar's Office. The data required for the ticket will be transmitted to ASEAG after registration. You will get the ticket 14 days before the start of the semester, at the earliest.

Please refer to the FAQ category "eTicket" for more detailed answers regarding the eTicket.

When do I register?

You will find the registration deadline on your letter of admission. We cannot inform you on the deadline that applies to you. Please be sure to observe the deadlines. Failure to meet a deadline may prevent registration.

Which documents are required for my registration?

In your letter of admission, you can find out which documents are required for registration. Please submit all the documents listed therein.

Usually, these are: certificate of higher education entrance qualification, valid identity card, curriculum vitae in table form, signed data protection declaration, proof of health insurance, first professionally qualifying degree (for registration in Master's degree programmes), proof of payment for the semester fee, if applicable, certificate of deregistration, if applicable, certificate of clearance, if applicable, proof of German language skills DSH-2, if applicable, certificate of successful aptitude test, if applicable, work placement recognition.

By which date do I have to submit the recognition of completed practical training certificate to the Registrar's Office?

Proof must be submitted by 31 March at the latest for registration for the summer semester and by 30 September at the latest for registration for the winter semester. (RPO 2018).

A previous registration is subject to this condition, which means that if you do not submit the certificate on time, your registration will be revoked.

If you are still in a practical training at the time of registration, please first submit a certificate from the business company to the Registrar's Office within the stipulated deadline (see letter of admission), stating the type, duration and time frame of the training. You will then be registered provisionally.

By which date do I have to submit the proof of language skills to the Registrar's Office?

The time at which proof of the language skills required by the admission or examination regulations must be provided will vary from programme to programme.

The deadlines for proof of language skills are individually regulated for Master's degree programmes. They can be found in the respective admission or examination regulations.

In the case of Bachelor's degree programmes (except for IOS degree programmes and Global Business and Economics), proof of language level DSH-1 must be provided at the time of application. At the time of application and in addition to language level DSH-1, you must provide proof that you are enrolled in a DSH-2 course and will complete it by 30.9/31.3. at the latest. If you do not provide this proof at the time of application, a possible admission will be revoked.

At the time of registration, proof of language level DSH-2 must be provided.

If you submit the required proof with your application and are admitted, you must provide proof of your current language level and attendance of a DSH-2 course at registration. Only then will you receive an extended deadline to submit the final language level

for applications for the summer semester until 31 March and
for applications for the winter semester until 30 September

This means that the extended deadline does not apply automatically, but only in the case of an application in accordance with the regulations and a registration within the time stipulated.

What happens after registration?

Depending on the degree programme, the starting time varies. The best way to find out which introductory events, bridging or preliminary courses are offered is to visit your faculty's website. Often the student representatives can also be of help.
