FAQ - Semester Fee & Refund

The semester fee is comprised of various elements and is payable within a certain period of time by newly registered and regular students. In formal terms, the semester contribution is correctly referred to as the "Sozial-und Studierendenschaftsbeitrag". We also answer the most frequently asked questions about the refund of semester fees.


How do I get the semester fee back?

Please submit your application for a refund of the fees to the Registrar's Office. The application may be submitted at any time. Depending on the reason for a refund, the amount to be refunded will vary.

Refund Before the Start of Lectures

I have submitted the request for a refund before the start of lectures. When can I expect the refund?

The processing time depends on the number of requests received.

Will I get the full amount back? Which portion of the semester fee will be refunded?

If you submit the application before the start of the lecture period, the complete semester fee will be refunded. Please note that a deregistration within the stipulated deadline is required for this.

Refund After the Start of Lectures

I have submitted the request for a refund after the start of lectures. When can I expect a refund?

If the application is submitted after the start of lectures, only part of the costs for the semester ticket may be refunded. Applications for this must be submitted to the AStA.
