VAEA - Verein zur Förderung des Austauschs europäischer und afrikanischer Kultur- und Bildungsangelegenheiten ist ein international tätiger gemeinütziger Verein dessen Ziel der Ausbau der Kooperation zwischen dem südlichen Afrika und Europa im Bildungs- und Kulturellen Bereich ist. Im Rahmen dieser Tätigkeit findet in Sommer vom 23. July 2017 bis 19. August 2017 zum sechsten Mal die "Summer University Namibia" in Windhoek, an der renomierten Polytechnic of Namibia statt. “EXPLORING SIBERIA February 11 – March 02, 2017 Irkutsk city and Lake Baikal, Russia”

Irkutsk National Research Technical University (Irkutsk, Russia) kindly invites students of your institution to take part in the international school "Exploring Siberia '17. Winter edition" to be held in Irkutsk city and Lake Baikal from February 11 till March 02, 2017. The event is organized within the framework of DAAD Go East program; limited number of scholarships will be awarded to German students.

Irkutsk National Research Technical University (INRTU) offers a high qualityacademic program in Siberian regional studies and Russian language combined with diverse cultural program. The first “Exploring Siberia” took place in summer 2007 and had 17 participants; in 2010 the winter edition of ES was launched. Since that time we had more than 290 participants from 20 countries of Europe, Asia, North and South America. The School is designed for international individuals with different educational background wishing to get / deepen knowledge about Siberia, understand local life style,open up opportunities for destroying misconceptions about Siberia. The program furthermore provides the participants with supporting course ofRussian language. After the program completion students are awarded with certificates of participation issued by INRTU.

International Summer School «Woodcraft and Art Summer School», 14–25 August 2017, Riga, Latvia

Students from all over the world who are interested in wooden design are welcome to join the «Woodcraft and Art Summer School» taking place in Riga and Ligatne (Latvia) from 14–25 August 2017 organized by the Institute of Design Technologies of the Faculty of Material Science and Applied Chemistry and the International Relations Department of Riga Technical University that is at present is the largest university in Latvia and gathers nearly 15 000 students at nine faculties in various study programmes. It is an internationally recognized university complying with European standards.


This summer school will provide you with knowledge in wood design, materials, technology, compounds and skills of wooden product manufacturing. You will also get a closer look at Latvia through introduction of traditional woodcraft objects closely linked to Latvian lifestyle and traditions. Participants’ accomplishments in the previous year was a proof that there are no limits to our creativity and that the joy of creating handmade things cannot be measured. This time for you will not only learn about the wooden design, you will also get to know people from all over the world and enjoy the beautiful nature of Latvia.

Prerequisites for candidates

Previous knowledge in woodworking is not required; you have to have finished at least one year of studies by the time the summer school starts, speak fluent English, have an interest in wooden design, as well as appreciation for the expertise of qualified professionals. With the help of our professional staff members, anyone can experience the first steps in wood working.


The summer school offers a programme consisting of lectures, workshops and discussions, company site visits, countryside visits, guided excursions and exciting parties. The programme will be conducted by a local team – designers, artists, technologists, designing engineers and invited experts. There will be lectures on different aspects of wood manufacturing and design. In addition to the lecture programme, practical work in groups will be carried out providing the possibility to work with woodworking machines processing sewn timber and manual woodworking tools while processing round timber. The programme will among other events include a social programme in Riga, sightseeing tour in Kuldiga and visits to several enterprises related to wood manufacturing.

Study credits

Certificates of Further Education of Riga Technical University and 2.5 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credit points will be awarded upon completion of the programme.

Participation fee

The participation fee, covering registration, tuition, accommodation in a student hostel of RTU, meals (breakfast and lunch) and the social programme is EUR 700. The participants will have to cover their travel expenses and health insurance. Participants can apply for partial scholarship from organizers depending on their academic result.
