Master Program Mechatronics (M.Sc.)

The paper based application process for the Mechatronics master has been replaced by an online application procedure.

Please note: The three-semester Master Mechatronics program is only open for applicants who have successfully finished their studies in Mechatronics (with a volume of 210 credit points in total) with a bachelor degree (as e.g. offered at the FH Aachen). Due to the fact that students graduate with different basics from their bachelor studies in Mechatronics, each application is checked for admission to the 3-semester master Mechatronics program. If the basics acquired in a Mechatronics bachelor program do not suffice the prerequisites for admission to the three-semester master program, applicants have to apply for the four-semester Mechatronics master program that brings all students (and also those from different academic disciplines such as Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering) in the first semester to a common level and basis for extended master studies in Mechatronics, which leads to a standard study period of four semesters.

Winter semester

The application deadline for the four-semester Master Mechatronics program that starts in the winter semester is:
June
30th, 2020. Please note that we have extended the application deadline from May 15th till June 30th, 2020!

The online application portal is open for application from mid April to June 30th, 2020 and can be reached via https://hi.fh-aachen.de.

Formal Admission Requirements

All applicants must fulfill the academic and language entrance requirements!

Academic Entrance Requirements

  • Bachelor, Dipl.-Ing. or equivalent degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or in a related field from a recognized university. The Bachelor degree has to certify the completion of an at least 3 years study program. Applicants must demonstrate a solid basis in mathematics and physics.

You can apply with provisional papers if you have not yet completed your Bachelor's degree. All academic transcripts showing all years of university study must be uploaded to the online application portal. However, be aware that you must have completed the Bachelor's degree at the time of enrollment.

  • Results of the GRE (Graduate Record Examination GENERAL TEST) need to be uploaded to the online application portal, if you received your Bachelor degree from a University outside of the European Union. (ETS institution code 9024)

Language Requirements

  • Proof of knowledge of German language ("Zertifikat Deutsch" (Level B1) or equivalent German language certificate must be uploaded to the online application portal).

  • Proof of knowledge of English language (Score sheets of the TOEFL test or an equivalent English language certificate must uploaded to the online application portal; minimum TOEFL score: 210 on the computer-based test, 79 on the internet-based test, 550 on the paper-based test; minimum IELTS score: Band 6.0; native speaker from one the following countries: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, USA).

Applicants from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Pakistan must submit TOEFL or IELTS scores, even if your complete education was in English. If you are admitted, the German embassy will not give you a visa if you do not have a current TOEFL or IELTS score sheet. Applicants from India using the German Consulate in Chennai or Hyderabad generally must submit a TOEFL or IELTS score sheet less than six months old at the time of VISA APPLICATION! This is a requirement of the Consulate, not the university! Other embassies and consulates may have similar requirements.

Health Insurance, Visas, German language requirements, tuition fees, other costs

Health Insurance

All students are required to have valid health insurance by German law. You will need travel insurance to enter Germany. Students can purchase reasonably-priced German student health insurance upon arrival. Student health insurance with one of the public insurance companies is about € 56 per month for students under 30 years of age and must be purchased here in Germany before enrollment. The price is set by German law and is the same for all public health insurance companies. For international students over 30, private health insurance is about € 60 per month.

Visas

  • Upon acceptance for admission to the Master Program in Mechatronics at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences we will send you a letter to take to the German embassy in your home country to get a student visa. The embassy will then forward your visa application to the Ausländeramt Aachen (Foreigner's Office Aachen) for processing. The Ausländeramt Aachen then notifies the embassy in your home country that you have been approved for a visa. This process takes a minimum of 6 weeks, but usually takes much longer.

  • Please be aware that at the German embassy you must also prove that you have enough money to support yourself during your first year in Germany, usually by proving that you have about 8000 € available to you.

  • All students must apply for a student visa. You cannot study in Germany with a tourist visa. If you enter Germany on a tourist visa, you will have to return to your home country to get a student visa.

  • Check the website of the German embassy or consulate you will be using for any other visa requirements for students from your country.

German language requirements

Knowledge of the German language at the level of the "Zertifikat Deutsch" (B1 level) represents only a basic level of German language competence. If you have the opportunity to take an advanced German language course in your home country we strongly recommend doing so. The Aachen University of Applied Sciences offers a German language intensive course in the first three weeks of September. A supplementary offer is the "Aachen German Language Summer" in August.

Tuition fees, other costs

For the contributions to the student union, the student welfare fund and for the ticket for free local public transportation in the area ("Semester ticket) you have to pay a student activity fee of currently 202 € per semester. All fees must be paid before enrolment.

Living costs, room and board, including health insurance, are generally around € 650 per month.

The Aachen University of Applied Sciences does not provide for scholarships for international or German students. International students are generally allowed to work for only 90 days per year.
