Who are we and what do we do?
Main responsibilities
The Faculty Student Council (FSR) represents students in their dealings with the Dean's Office and the other bodies of the University of Applied Sciences. They are your contact for almost any issues that may arise in everyday student life. The Faculty Student Council works to maintain good study conditions and to bring about improvements in all aspects of student life. Furthermore, the FSR helps to foster a sense of community amongst students. Together with our volunteers (the ‘freshers’ tutors’), we organise various events for students throughout the semester.
Naturally, the members of the Faculty Student Council are not just there to represent students, but are just as readily available to students on campus.
We’re always ready to listen to students’ questions, concerns, difficulties and suggestions!
If you have any queries or are interested in our work, simply pop into office Hoh U1202. If you’d like to stay up to date with what’s happening in the faculty, you’re also welcome to attend our meetings.
These take place on Thursdays in every even calendar week at 7 pm.
Support with day-to-day university life
We act as the link between the University of Applied Sciences and the students. We represent students, run a suggestions box and provide support with your studies. We know who to turn to; we know the relevant contacts and those responsible for matters relating to everyday life at university. Just come and talk to us!
Whenever you have questions about procedures and regulations, or if you’re stuck with a problem related to your studies, just pop in or get in touch with us. We’re familiar with the current rules in the faculties (or we’ll find them out) and, above all, we know the rights you have as students. So far, we’ve managed to find a good solution to most problems :)
Teaching Materials Department
Through our Teaching Materials Department (LMR), we offer a range of writing, drawing and study materials that have proven their worth amongst students at Faculty 6; from notepads and pens, through to calculators and technical drawing sets. We are also happy to receive new suggestions so that we can adapt the LMR’s range to meet current needs.
Representation
The members of the FSR 6 are re-elected annually. They comprise both Bachelor’s and Master’s students from all degree programmes within Faculty 6. The members are at various stages of their studies and are therefore able to represent the interests of students in a wide variety of ways.
The FSR delegates its members or appoints Consultants to university governance bodies, such as the Dean's Office (the decision-making body of Faculty 6), the AStA, the Faculty Council (the supervisory body of Faculty 6) and appointment committees for new lecturers. This ensures that ideas and issues relating to day-to-day student life can be quickly raised ‘up the line’ for discussion.
We also maintain good contact with the student liaison lecturer and the programme coordinators, which enables us to resolve structural or organisational issues swiftly.
Events and functions
Last but not least, our responsibilities also include organising and running events, parties and other activities to provide students with fun and a chance to socialise. To this end, we’re in close contact with our neighbours from Faculty 8, with whom we regularly plan joint activities to take a break from studying every now and then.
Together with our tutors, we regularly organise Freshers’ Week, the student body of the faculty Christmas market, the summer party and a few other events in between.
Fancy getting involved in these activities? No problem – just let us know!
