Prof Dr Markus Fredebeul-Krein
Dean
Prof Dr Markus Fredebeul-Krein studied economics at the University of Cologne from 1988 to 1995. He graduated with a diploma and also gained an M.A. in International Studies during a year of study abroad at the University of Warwick in England. He then did a doctorate on the topic of "Regulatory policy in the market for telecommunications services: National Design and International Rules" at the University of Cologne and successfully completed this in 1999.
After gaining practical experience at the European Commission and the German-Venezuelan Chamber of Commerce CAVENAL during his studies and doctorate, he joined Deutsche Telekom AG in 1999. He worked there until 2001 as a Consultant in the area of "Regulatory Management Carrier Services, Transmission Routes and Network Solutions". He then worked as a senior consultant for strategic management at DETECON International GmbH until the end of 2003. In 2004, he was appointed professor of economics, in particular economic policy, at FH Aachen. Before taking office as Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies on 1 September 2024, he was already involved as Chairman of the International Committee of the International Business Studies degree programme and as Head of the Global Business and Economics degree programme. Since 2015, he has also been a member of the Management Committee for the "OpenBordersMBA" degree programme, which FH Aachen runs jointly with HEC Liège and the University of Hasselt.
Prof Dr Jürgen Vogt
Vice Dean for Studies and Teaching
After completing his vocational training as a banker, Prof Dr Jürgen Vogt studied business administration and law at the University of Mannheim from 1992 to 2000. He then worked as a lawyer at Andersen Legal in the Banking & Finance department in Frankfurt am Main until 2002 and did an extra-occupational doctorate in tax law at the University of Mannheim. He then worked as a lawyer and tax consultant at Arthur Andersen and Ernst & Young in Frankfurt am Main in the Financial Services Tax department. At the same time, he was a lecturer in commercial and tax accounting for the Master's degree programme in Business Law and Taxation at the University of Mannheim.
He gained international experience in 2005 during a secondment to Deutsche Bank in London and Ernst & Young Singapore as well as during his subsequent more than six years in the group tax department of J.P. Morgan in London, most recently as Executive Director. He returned to Germany in 2013, where he initially worked as an in-house tax consultant at UniCredit Bank AG in Munich and then at United Technologies Corporation in Berlin, specialising in international group tax law.
In 2017, he was appointed Professor of Business Administration, in particular Finance and Taxation, at the Faculty of Business Studies at FH Aachen. Since 2018, he has also been teaching on FH Aachen's cross-border Master's degree programme Open Borders MBA in cooperation with the Belgian universities HEC Liege and UHasselt. Since 1 September 2024, he has been Vice Dean for Studies and Teaching at the Faculty of Business Studies.
Prof Dr Gisela Maercker
Vice Dean for Finance
Gisela Maercker studied mathematics and physics at the University of Freiburg and then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Mathematical Stochastics at the Technical University of Braunschweig. After a research stay at the University of Kent in Canterbury, England, she worked as a Research Assistant in the field of financial mathematics at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics in Kaiserslautern.
In 1998 she moved to Frankfurt am Main. There she initially worked at Commerzbank AG until 2001 in the Central Credit Department, where she was responsible for methods and IT systems in the Investment Banking division. From 2001 to 2004, she worked at Deutsche Bank AG in Credit Risk Controlling in the Credit Risk Engines division, most recently as head of the Credit Risk Engineering & Implementation team.
In December 2004, she was appointed Professor of Statistics and Business Mathematics at the Faculty of Business Studies at FH Aachen. Her research specialisms include risk management and time series analysis. Since 1 September, she has been Vice Dean for Finance at the Faculty of Business Studies. She had already been involved in the faculty for many years, including as a member of the Faculty Council, as the Rector's Appointment Officer and as a member of various appointment committees.
Verena Vierhaus M.A.
Vice Dean of Academic Affairs Staff members
Verena Vierhaus studied communication science, sociology and psychology at WU Münster and RWTH Aachen University. After completing her degree, she completed a traineeship in the press office of an aid organisation and then worked in the press and public relations team.
She has been working as a marketing officer at the Faculty of Business Studies since 2013. Her tasks include strategic marketing concepts, designing and editing department-related online and offline communication, press and public relations work, expanding corporate partnerships and fundraising, event management (especially Business Insights and graduation ceremonies), social media management, alumni work and implementing internal communication measures.
She has held the position of Vice Dean of Research Assistants in the Dean's Office since 20 April 2026.
Gabriela Curnic
Student Vice Dean
After Gabriela Curnic came to Germany in 2016, she went through various types of school and obtained her entrance qualification for a university of applied sciences. She has been studying Global Business and Economics at the Faculty of Business Studies at FH Aachen since 2023.
In addition to her studies, she has already gained a wide range of professional experience. For example, she worked at EDEKA, where she was responsible for coordinating several checkouts and organising processes. She also worked as a freelance translator and interpreter, helping people with appointments, communication with authorities and administrative and financial matters. She also gained practical insights during an internship at Kreisjugendring Roth, where she organised workshops and youth programmes and managed the social media channels, as well as at a law firm, where she got to know everyday legal life during the pandemic.
Gabriela has also been involved in voluntary work for many years. At Kreisjugendring Roth, she independently led creative and media-based activities in holiday programmes or on activity days at the museum. At the Bavarian Red Cross, she was particularly involved in caring for people with special needs.
Gabriela Curnic has been Vice Dean of Students since 1 September 2025. In this role, she represents the interests of students in the Faculty of Business Studies and is the contact person for student matters.
