Nuclear Physics and Radiation Metrology
The Laboratory for Nuclear Physics, Radiation Protection and Radiation Diagnostics enables students in Faculties 3, 9 and 10 to gain experience in dealing with ionising radiation and learn about possible fields of application in medicine and industry.
Enclosed radioactive substances, neutron sources and X-ray equipment are available in the laboratory for a variety of applications that demonstrate the benefits and areas of application of ionising radiation in research, industry and medicine. Examples include non-invasive imaging procedures in medicine, material analyses and investigations into radioactivity in the environment.
In national and international collaborations with research institutions such as the Jülich Research Centre, other universities and companies, research and development topics are worked on in the laboratory, often in connection with bachelor's, master's and doctoral theses.
