Laboratory for Nondestructive Testing of Materials

The lab is equipped with an X-ray inspection unit for nondestructive testing of materials (NdT). The X-ray unit is used for research and training at the FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences to inspect materials for hidden flaws. Different wall thicknesses and various materials can be examined, such as steel, light metals, ceramics, plastics, sintered or wooden materials, and slate. The X-ray unit has two replaceable tubes with different focal points.

The X-ray images show a large depth of field which makes it easy to detect flaws, e.g. according to the assessment group B of DIN EN ISO 5817.
