Railway Systems Engineering
Laboratory for Railway Systems Engineering
The opening of the laboratory goes along with the introduction of the bachelor degree program Railway Systems Engineering (B.Eng.) at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences in 2010.
The lab is used for presentations and tests regarding various aspects of railway technology. Students of the degree program have also the opportunity to use the lab as learning and tutorial room. So far, the equipment of the laboratory includes an interlocking simulation with four workstations (ESTWsim), a driver's cab simulator (Zusi), a model railway (controlled with a SpDrS60 interlocking simulation) and a model for track guidance.
Driver's cab simulator
The driver's cab simulator consists of a unit driver's cab, a trainer's workstation and a traffic simulation. In addition to teaching, it is also used in the control and safety technology module at trade fairs and in training. The possibility to intervene in the simulation process with the trainer workstation makes the application very comfortable and flexible.
Interlocking simulation
With the help of the simulation of an electronic interlocking (ESTW), various safety and operational interrelationships can be illustrated from the point of view of a traffic controller. The simulation includes eight workstations for students and is used, among other things, in the module Control and Safety Engineering.
