10th SFI Alumni Meeting

On October 2, 2026, it was that time again: The SFI Alumni Meeting took place for the 10th time. What began in 2014 as an initiative of the “Joining and Cutting Technology, Laser Technology” subject has, over the years, become a well-established tradition at Aachen University of Applied Sciences. Even in this anniversary year, over 40 participants accepted our invitation to further strengthen the cross-generational network of experienced welding engineers (SFI-IWE) and interested students.

As always, the gathering offered a warm and welcoming setting—ideal for connecting the next generation of welding engineers directly with the professional world and keeping their connection to our university alive. Following the official welcome by Prof. Markus Schleser, two engaging technical presentations were delivered by our alumni.

  • Katarzyna Grahner, M.Eng. (IWE at Schmehmann Rohrverformungstechnik GmbH) provided an impressive insight into “Welding Challenges in International Collaboration—Intercultural Behavior and the Diversity of Regulatory Frameworks.”
  • Daniel Teichmann, M.Sc. (IWE, Managing Director of VENTAIX GmbH) then spoke about the current possibilities for “Non-contact vibration measurement technology on machines, systems, and welded structures.”

Following the professional presentations, the relaxed conclusion to the event once again provided ample opportunity to reminisce, make valuable new connections, and explore interdisciplinary project ideas. We would like to thank everyone involved for the thoroughly successful anniversary gathering, and we look forward to the next event with great anticipation!
