Technology, sales and culture: a summer school connects continents

In the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics at FH Aachen, you don't just hear German at the moment - you also hear a lot of English with an American accent. The reason: a group of students from the USA is visiting and bringing international flair to everyday university life.

This is made possible by the close partnership with Weber State University in Ogden (Utah, USA), a Magellan partner university of FH Aachen. Every year, Wendi Birch organises a summer school that combines academic learning with intercultural experiences. This year, 29 students from the Mechanical Engineering and Professional Sales degree programmes are taking part.

Their journey begins at the airport in Salt Lake City and takes them across Europe: Amsterdam, Cologne, Bonn - including a trip to Drachenburg Castle and the Beethoven House - as well as Brussels and Paris are on the programme. A special highlight, however, is the extended stay in Aachen from 4 to 13 May. This is the second time that the Summer School has been held here at FH Aachen.

The mornings are dedicated to studying: from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the students attend courses and lectures in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics. The professional sales students will be taught by Professor Nicole Flink (Weber State University), while Professor Dustin Birch (Weber State University) will supervise the prospective engineers.

FH Aachen also contributes its expertise: Professor Walter Reichert organises courses and lectures on technical sales and coating technology, providing exciting insights into practical topics.

But learning doesn't end in the lecture hall. In the afternoons, the students explore Aachen and the region: a city tour with a visit to Aachen Cathedral, an excursion to picturesque Monschau and a company visit to the coating specialist CemeCon provide varied impressions and valuable practical experience.

Such programmes show how international cooperation not only imparts knowledge, but also builds bridges between cultures - and thus creates the basis for joint innovations of tomorrow.

We wish the participants of the Weber State Summer School a great time here with us in Aachen!
