The Honorary Senator Eberhard Fischer-Stipend
The former Honorary Senator of FH Aachen expresses his solidarity with his estate donation
Starting in the 2021/22 funding year, FH Aachen will award an annual Honorary Senator Eberhard Fischer Scholarship. Eberhard Fischer passed away in 2020 at the age of 85, and he expressed his attachment to "his" university in a special way: by donating a generous bequest that will directly benefit the students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Thanks to this legacy, a total of 11 scholarships can be awarded as part of the FH Aachen scholarship programme, in accordance with the founder's wishes.
On 16 December 1988, Eberhard Fischer was awarded the title of Honorary Senator by the then Rector of FH Aachen, Prof. Dr René Flosdorff. Fischer had been a Lecturer in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at FH Aachen since 1983. He made a name for himself above all in the then still young field of data processing. As a senior employee of a global computer group, he had excellent contacts in the business world, which his students were able to utilise: Many of them wrote practical dissertations with him.
Eberhard Fischer also helped to develop international relations. In the early 1980s, the founding rector of FH Aachen, Prof Dr Helmut Strehl, played a key role in the establishment of a university in Aachen's Chinese twin city of Ningbo. Fischer established a modern data processing centre at the university there.
With his legacy donation, Fischer's commitment during his time at FH Aachen lives on in the idea of networking and exchange, which is so important for the scholarship programme.
