Hospitation
The University Alliance HAWtech(https://www.hawtech.de) is an association of six universities of applied sciences (HAW) with a technical focus - hence the addition tech. The founding universities are
- FH Aachen,
- Berlin University of Applied Sciences,
- Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences,
- Dresden University of Applied Sciences,
- Esslingen University of Applied Sciences and
- Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences.
In the network, the HAWtech universities would like to jointly further develop existing strengths, create and use corresponding synergies and open up new fields. One instrument for this is job shadowing.
What is job shadowing?
We understand job shadowing to be the temporary work visit of individual employees to another HAWtech university. This stay extends over a few days during a previously agreed period. It usually takes place in the relevant Section/Organisational Unit of the host university. This means that if you are an accounting staff member, you will accompany your accounting colleagues at the host university for a few days. If you are a member of staff in the Library, you will accompany your colleagues in the host Library for a few days. If you work in the secretariat of a faculty, you will look over the shoulders of colleagues from the corresponding faculty at a HAWtech university.
Who can observe?
In principle, all employees of the administration or administration-related institutions can do a job shadowing at one of the HAWtech universities. As a guest student, you should have been employed at your university for at least one year. In addition, you should have familiarised yourself very well with your area of responsibility and have performed accordingly well.
If you would like to broaden your knowledge by looking beyond your own horizons, the job shadowing programme may be the right thing for you. You should discuss your wish to participate in the job shadowing with your manager, as he or she will ultimately decide whether you can take part in the job shadowing.
How do I become a guest student?
- Discuss your wish to observe with your manager.
- Fill out the application form and send it to Human Resources Development(personalentwicklungfh-aachen.de).
- We will contact the university of your choice and put you in touch with them.
- Discuss all details with the host university and plan your work shadowing in terms of organisation and content.
