Your path to a professorship at FH Aachen
Your decision has been made, but what does your path to a professorship at FH Aachen look like? What are the next steps? The path is clearly structured. After the public advertisement in accordance with the requirements of the Higher Education Act (§§ 37 ff.), the appointment committee pre-selects the best applicants and invites them to the selection process, which results in trial teaching sessions. Professors outside the committee then prepare independent expert reports which, together with the impressions from the courses, form the basis for the appointment proposal.

What documents do I need for my application for a professorship at FH Aachen?
Do you want to play an active role in shaping the future of research, teaching and the region? Then show us that you are the right person! Submit your application documents to us so that we can ensure that you fulfil all the formal and personal requirements for a professorship at FH Aachen. These include
- a cover letter or letter of motivation,
- a detailed CV with all relevant stations, publications, awards and experience in research and teaching
- Your educational qualifications, certificates and proofs and certificates of professional experience.
You are welcome to supplement your application with
- Documents relating to your pedagogical aptitude, such as evaluations of your courses and lectures,
- a list of your academic publications and presentations.
If you are interested in a professorship in the artistic field, please include evidence of prizes and awards with your application. This will enable us to assess your suitability for the position in the best possible way.
How does an appeal procedure work?
As soon as we have received your application, the appointment committee will review the documents and make a pre-selection. We invite the selected candidates to a trial teaching event and a personal interview. The committee then draws up an appointment proposal for the most suitable candidates and submits it to the Faculty Council, which passes it on to the Rector after approval by the university management. The Rector then selects the first-placed candidate, who finally receives the letter of appointment. After a further interview with the Rector and the letter of appointment signed by you, nothing stands in the way of your appointment, usually as a civil servant. You will soon be able to take up your professorship!
How much do I earn as a professor at FH Aachen?
As a tenured professor at FH Aachen, you will be remunerated according to the state salary scale W. Most of our professorships are advertised as W2 positions, and you can find the current W2 basic salary rate of the state of NRW online at the State Office for Salaries and Pensions. Depending on your personal circumstances, there may be additional allowances for family and place of residence. Additional benefits and allowances are also possible under certain conditions. The state salary also applies as a remuneration framework for professors employed under private law.
