Search & Discover

With Catalogue PLUS, you have the option of searching all media in our four libraries as well as licenced databases and freely accessible academic documents with just one search query.
The hit list in Catalogue PLUS is divided into two tabs: In the "Catalogue" tab, you search all media, i.e. books, journals, e-books, etc. of the library. If you need articles from journals, chapters from books, contributions from collective works or congress papers, switch to the "More" tab.

Enter your search term in the free text field at the top.

If you have specific information about a title, e.g. an ISBN or an author name, you can use the appropriate search fields.

Tips for Starting Your Search

Hit List

The hit list is displayed sorted by the date of publication.


All printed and electronic media that you find in the "Catalogue" tab have been purchased or licensed by the library and are therefore accessible to you.

You can easily identify printed media by the availability indicator. You can identify electronic media by the access link to the full text.

Filter

Narrow down the hit list using filters.

For example: The filter "Online Resource" will narrow down the hit list to our digital stocks.

Login

In order to check availability at your home library, please log in with your FH Identifier and password.

 

Detailed View - Physical Stock

In order to obtain details on the availability of a hit, click on the title. All copies are displayed with their status, branch, location and shelfmark.

You can see whether a copy is available or on loan and whether it is available in your home library or can be ordered from another branch.

Detailed View - E-Stock

In order to obtain details on a hit, click on the title.

The access link will take you to the full text. Full texts can be accessed across the campus and for members of FH Aachen outside the university via VPN or the FH Identifier as well.

Das Suchergebnis im Reiter "Mehr" ist weitaus größer als im Reiter "Katalog", da die verschiedensten Quellen durchsucht werden. Auch welche, die die Bibliothek nicht für Sie gekauft oder lizenziert hat.

Filter

Narrow down the hit list using filters.

For example: The filter "Only hits with online full text" will narrow down the hit list to titles that you can read online right away.

For example: Use the filter "Academic Journals" to search for journal articles / papers.

Detailed View

For details on a hit, click on the title.

If the title is available online, you can access the full text via the access link. Licenced full texts can be accessed across the campus and for members of FH Aachen outside the university via VPN or via the FH Identifier as well.

How do I get it?

If no stock is displayed in the detailed view of the hit, click on the button "How do I get to it?

 

Access Options

You will find out which access options there are for the hit.

If the hit is not accessible online or on site, you can place an interlibrary loan order.

Search in the "Supraregional Search" tab

Search Starting Point

Enter your search query in the free text field. If you have specific information about a title, e.g. an ISBN or an author's name, you can find suitable fields under "More Search Fields".

Next, select the search area. Use the cogwheel to find out which libraries, databases or catalogues are to be searched.

Hit List

On the right side, you can see the number of hits per library, database or catalogue.

The hits are displayed in a list, sorted by database.

Books & Journals

All printed books and journals are listed in the "Catalogue" tab of the Catalogue PLUS. The hit list of your search can be narrowed down to physical media via the filter "Local stocks". For information on how, and for how long, you can borrow media, how renewals work, etc., please refer to the section "Visit & Borrow".

 

 

Articles / Papers

You can search for papers, newspaper articles and journal articles via the "More" tab of Catalogue PLUS. Here you will find references from many of our licensed databases and open access publications. Some articles are offered directly online in full text while others can be ordered in printed form from our libraries or via interlibrary loan.


Members of FH Aachen can use licensed articles regardless of time and place. For access from outside, you can log in either via VPN or with your FH Identifier, depending on your licence.

Databases

Databases offer you the possibility to search in a targeted manner across a wide range of literature. On the one hand, you can search the contents (e.g. journal articles and book chapters) of literature. On the other hand, special filters are available for your search.


In our database list you will find all licensed and free databases, which you can sort either by subject or alphabetically.

For licensing reasons, the databases are only available to members of FH Aachen within the framework of studies, teaching and research. Commercial use is excluded.

The traffic light system shows you which contents are available.
If you want to search in licensed databases from outside the university, please connect via Virtual Private Network (VPN) beforehand.

Standards, Regulations & Patents

If you would like to obtain information on the latest developments in technology in the form of standards, regulations and patents, licensed and freely available databases are available to you here. You can, for instance, download the full text of DIN standards.

For licensing reasons, the databases are restricted to members of FH Aachen within the framework of studies, teaching and research. Commercial use is excluded.

E-Books & E-Journals

All licensed e-books and e-journals are listed in the tab "Catalogue" of Catalogue PLUS. The hit list of your search can be restricted to media that are available online via the filter "Online Resources". Once you find something suitable, you can access the full text via the access link.


Members of FH Aachen can use licensed e-books and e-journals independent of time and place. For access from outside, log in either via VPN or with your FH Identifier, depending on licensing.

Films & Videos

DVDs

All DVDs are listed in the tab "Catalogue" within Catalogue PLUS. The hit list of your search can be limited to DVDs using the filters "Local stocks" and "Film, slides, video". For information on how to borrow DVDs, how renewals work, etc., please see the section "Visit & Borrow".

 

LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn Learning is a video portal offering German and English video tutorials taught by experts in the industry in the areas of software, creativity and business skills. Access is free for all FH members within the university network or after logging in with your FH Identifier.

 

The Digital SAP Library (Espresso Tutorials)

In this online library of the Espresso Tutorials Publishing House, you will find more than 200 practice-related manuals and videos on the subject of SAP software. Access is free for all FH members within the FH Aachen network or via VPN.

 

 

Final Theses

Final theses for the past five years from Faculties 3, 9 and 10 are available for loan in Jülich.

Selected final theses from Faculty 4Faculty 7 and Faculty 8 can be found online in OPUS.

All these theses can be searched in the Catalogue PLUS.

 

Publication Server OPUS

On our publication server OPUS, which is used as a university bibliography as well as a repository, you will find final theses of our students as well as scientific publications of employees and professors of FH Aachen. These are listed irrespective of their availability.

Enter your search term in the free text field. If you have specific information about a title, there are more search fields available (author, title, etc.). You can filter your hit list with numerous facets. The filter "Full texts available" can be used to limit the hit list to titles that are available directly on the OPUS server as PDF downloads.

What is VPN?

VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a software that allows you, as a member of the FH Aachen, to log in from any internet access point worldwide with your FH ID. 
You are then virtually on campus and can also use the services whose access is normally restricted to the campus.

 

Why do I need VPN access?

The library has licensed a variety of electronic services for you. 
VPN access allows you to access from home to:
