Aerin Weber
From Vienna to the USA to key account management at Haribo
Born in Vienna, partly raised in the USA - Aerin Weber gained international experience early on. She studied International Business Management at the FH Aachen from 2022 to 2024. Today, she is completing a traineeship in sales at Haribo, with clear goals for her professional future. We spoke to her about formative experiences, her studies and her career path.
Mrs Weber, you were born in Vienna and lived in the USA for a while. What was that like for you?
Moving to the USA was a formative experience. It broadened my horizons and increased my openness to new paths and cultures - this had a decisive influence on my life.
You already completed a Bachelor's degree in Utrecht before studying at FH Aachen. Why did you choose the Master's programme in International Business Management?
The opportunity to continue studying in English (at least partially) and the compulsory semester abroad.
After completing your Master's degree at FH Aachen, you joined Haribo straight away. What did you do there?
I started a traineeship in sales at Haribo. In the first year, I worked in field sales and now, in the second year, I'm working in various internal sales sections (natural and international discount, as well as classic food retail). I am currently working on expanding and consolidating my knowledge within the company and building up a good network. After my traineeship, I would like to start in Key Account Management - I am currently realising this in the cooperation with my colleagues on site.
You have international experience, two degrees and practical knowledge. How has studying at FH Aachen helped you in your day-to-day work?
Studying helped me to better understand economic relationships and to categorise new topics more quickly. The practical skills that I use in my day-to-day work were mainly acquired through practical training such as my internship.
What do you particularly like about your job and what are the biggest challenges?
I like taking on new challenges and responsibilities in order to grow and develop. I like the opportunity to take on responsibility, the varied work, my colleagues and the options for further development. It's a challenge to juggle everything and keep a cool head at the same time.
What do you like to do in your free time and how do you manage to find a balance between work and leisure?
A good balance in life is important to me - between work and leisure, between personal goals and social relationships. I enjoy doing sport, reading every day and meeting friends. I used to do a lot of photography, but somehow I don't really get round to it at the moment.
Do you have a motto that stays with you?
I always like to remind myself of this: "It's a challenge to have the courage to change the things that are within your control and to have the wisdom to accept the things you can't change."
