Strong in research

The FH Aachen is one of the most research-intensive universities of applied sciences in Germany (see FH Aachen's In-Institutes and An-Institutes).

The professors in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics are very active in applied research and development. We work particularly intensively in the fields of additive manufacturing, automation technology, innovative joining processes, mechatronics, rail vehicle technology and robotics. Most R&D projects involve direct cooperation with small and large companies, with research institutes such as Fraunhofer and with other universities. This opens up a wide range of opportunities for our students to gain their first experience in application-oriented research, e.g. in the context of project work and theses.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics has two In-Institutes:

  1. IaAM | Institute for Applied Automation und Mechatronics
  2. MASKOR Institute for Mobile Autonomous Systems and Cognitive Robotics

as well as the following An-Institute:

  3. IWF | Institute for Tool-less Manufacturing Ltd.
