Rail Vehicle Technology
Laboratory for Rail Vehicle Technology
In the rail vehicle technology laboratory, among other things, the practical courses on rail vehicle technology 1 & 2 take place as well as all work on our locomotive "Molly".
The rail vehicle technology laboratory is mainly used for works in the areas of assisted, automated and autonomous driving. Specific facilities for this include several workstations for numerical simulations and CAD as well as measurement technology and manual workstations.
Autonomous and automated driving
Experiments with the 1:5 scale model locomotive can be carried out here on the mobile track system. It has four permanently energized synchronous motors, a spring-loaded brake and extensive sensor and control technology. Advantages of tests on a reduced scale are shorter preparation times and reduced costs for the tests.
Compressed air and brake technology
In addition to didactic setups used in teaching, compressed air generators from the Dürr company and a locomotive brake panel are available. The construction of a brake test stand for a four-car train with brakes according to UIC/TSI is planned. A combined drive and brake test stand on a scale of 1:5 is available for investigations in the field of brake blending and regenerative braking.
Service life analysis
The service life behavior of components up to a mass of 20 kg can be tested with the electrodynamic shaker from MB dynamics at accelerations of up to 30 g, i.e., for example, in accordance with DIN EN 61373 for attachment to car bodies and bogie frames.
