What you need...

Library

The FH Aachen has set up libraries at four locations in Aachen and Jülich. In the libraries, you will find study literature, journals, newspapers, subject databases and standards collections, reading stations, Internet access and friendly, competent advice. The library website provides various information, e.g. about the user or library card, book loans and loan renewals, and the various library locations.

Campus Office | Course Catalog

The web-based study planner CAMPUS-Office is part of the integrated CAMPUS information system of the FH Aachen and allows students direct access to their personal lecture and event data. This provides you with a tool that enables optimized planning and management of your studies.

With the web organizer CampusOffice you can register for your different subjects as well as transfer your events into your personal schedule and thus create your online timetable. If events are cancelled or postponed, your schedule will be adjusted accordingly and you will receive an e-mail to your FH Aachen e-mail address.

Those who study Engineering Management should also know: In order to be able to plan room assignments and to ensure access to all required information, all events at the Faculty of Business Sciences (7) are subject to registration.

Data Processing Center (DVZ)

The Data Processing Center is your contact point for questions regarding network facilities at FH Aachen. On the whole area of the FH Aachen, FH students have free access to the WLAN network eduroam, which they can connect to by using their access data (which they received during enrollment). Eduroam is a service of the German Research Network and allows to use the WLAN at all universities participating in the program. In Aachen, RWTH Aachen University participates in the program as well as FH Aachen UAS.

On the websites of the DVZ you can find information or instructions about the numerous services that are provided for you.

FH Aachen portals

The FH Aachen portals offer students various information and student self-service options. One print study certificates and submit a request for leave of absence, exmatriculation or refund of semester fees.

Through the FH Aachen Portals you can manage your exams via QIS and get fast access to Campus Office and ILIAS e-learning system. Students can also use the portals to apply for another degree program, especially master's programs, using their FH Aachen ID.

You get access to the portals on FH Aachen's website, go up to the top on the right side -> click then on "portals" and select a specific portal.

FH Card

The FH Aachen issues a multifunctional chip card (FH card) for all students. The handy FH card in EC card format serves as:

  • student ID
  • library card
  • payment card in the refectories and cafeterias
  • and for participation and access control at university sports.

Note: Cash is not accepted in the refectory, you have to pay with the FH Card!

University user account

The university account is the user account for the central, access-restricted services at the FH Aachen. It is used for authentication when logging on to the network at PC workstations of the FH, the university e-mail and the WLAN. You also need it to register for bridge courses or semester-long events. After enrollment, you will receive a data sheet from the Student Secretariat with the necessary activation data for the university user account.

Please do not waste time to activate your university user account, because it takes about 24 hours after activation before you can use your university account, especially your university e-mail address. For data protection reasons, the university will only communicate with you via your university address. According to the registration regulations of the FH you are therefore also obliged to check the receipt of documents and messages of the FH Aachen regularly (at least once a week). The easiest way to do this is to set up a forwarding from your university address to your private e-mail address.

You can find instructions on how to do this and other useful information, e.g. about the settings of the account, on the website of the data processing center (DVZ).

University Sports

The Aachen University Sports Center is a service and educational offer for all students, employees and trainees of RWTH Aachen University, FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences and for other Aachen universities.
The Hochschulsportzentrum (HSZ), a central facility of RWTH Aachen University, organizes a demand-oriented and qualified range of sports and exercise activities for the Aachen universities | Continue to Hochschulsportzentrum

Ilias

Ilias provides you with a personalized learning platform. If you have registered for courses via CampusOffice, you usually automatically get access to the corresponding folder in Ilias. Here, the lecturers upload e.g. exercises or scripts. So you should check regularly if something has been added to the folders of your courses. At the very beginning of the semester, a folder may not have been created for every course or the folder may still be empty. There is no need to be confused by this. Also, you can create surveys in the Ilias forum and have other students or professors answer them. This is interesting e.g. for projects or the bachelor thesis.

In Ilias, you will also find special page for freshmen on the Faculty 8, which informs about important things for the beginning of your studies and offers dates and events as well as help, instructions and links.

You can access Ilias via the FH Aachen portal on the FH homepage.

Laptop

If you want to buy a laptop for your studies, it should have certain features so that you can use it effectively during your studies. You will be working with Inventor, Ansys, Matlab or other programmes during your studies. In order to run these programmes on your own laptop, it should have the following specifications.

Click here to go to the website of the Studierendenwerk Aachen, where the weekly menus of the refectories are published.

QIS

QIS is an online service for study administration via the Internet. You can use it to create your BaföG or study certificate, check your fee account and view your module grades at any time and create your grade report. You can also use QIS to register for exams during the registration periods (and to cancel your registration if you do so eight days before the exam). Additionally, you can change your address in QIS to which the mail of the FH Aachen should be sent. For example, if you entered your home address at the beginning of your studies and you now live in Aachen. Click here to go to the QIS portal.

Examination regulations

With your enrollment you sign that you accept the currently valid framework examination regulations of the FH Aachen as well as the examination regulations valid for your study program. Therefore, it is important that you also know the contents. All students should have read both examination regulations. The examination regulations can be downloaded online at the respective study program.

If you have any questions about the examination regulations, the Faculty 8's student council will be happy to help you. Alternatively, you can contact Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Christian Effertz (chairman of the examination board), please e-mail to vorsitz.pruefungsausschuss.fb8(at)list.fh-aachen.de.

Semester ticket

The semester ticket (eTicket) is a chip card on which a travel authorization, i.e. the ticket, is written electronically on a chip. This is sent to students by post by ASEAG following enrollment. The Student Service Center (SSC) has summarized and answered the most frequently asked questions about the eTicket.

In addition, the AStA offers further information about the semester ticket, such as the reimbursement of the costs of the semester ticket during a semester abroad.

Timetable

This question is often asked by freshers and transfer students. The following applies to freshers on a Bachelor's degree programme:

You will be given a timetable for the first semester. You will be divided into groups. You are therefore directly registered for the respective course. You will be allocated to groups by a certain date in September. You can then see which group you are in on Campus Office. Then all you have to do is drag the courses into your timetable. You can find out how to do this in the following instruction.

Transfer students and students from the second semester onwards must then create their timetable themselves using Campus Office: www.campusoffice.fh-aachen.de

If you have any problems with the tool, please contact the student body of the faculty (Fachschaft).

What does a timetable look like in the first semester? The timetable looks slightly different every semester, but you can find an example below for a rough overview.

Please note that the times can change slightly from year to year. The schedule also depends on which practice and tutorial groups you are in.
