FSR8
The Faculty Student Council (FSR) is made up of elected and volunteer students from the various degree programmes within Faculty 8. We represent the interests, wishes and concerns of the student body in dealings with the university. As our members are at different subject-specific semesters, we cover a broad spectrum of experiences and perspectives. As well as representing students on subject-specific and academic matters, we offer a confidential point of contact for personal concerns and challenges encountered in everyday student life.
Thanks to our close and constructive dialogue with lecturers and the faculty management, we play an active role in shaping study conditions. To enrich everyday student life and promote networking amongst the student body, the FSR regularly organises campus events such as the courtyard barbecue or the traditional summer party on Goethestraße.
A key focus of our work is the orientation phase for freshers: we plan and organise Freshers’ Week and the subsequent Freshers’ Trip to provide the best possible support at the start of studies. To support these initiatives, we are always delighted to welcome committed students who would like to get involved as tutors.
All students are always warmly welcome at the FSR office (room GOE U1222).
Meeting Schedule
The Faculty Student Council meets every two weeks during odd calendar weeks, on Mondays at 5.30 pm. The usual venue is the large meeting room (GOE 00211).
Any last-minute changes to the time or venue will be announced in good time via our Instagram channel.
Information on meetings & attendance:
- Public access: All meetings are open to the public. Interested students are always welcome to attend – whether to play an active role or simply to find out about current issues and developments within the faculty.
- Lecture-free period: No regular meetings take place during this period. Any exceptions will be announced on our Instagram channel.

Equipment hire for other university bodies
The Faculty Student Council has an extensive range of event equipment, which we are happy to make available to student representatives and student bodies at FH Aachen and RWTH Aachen University.
Our equipment for hire includes, amongst other things:
- Gazebos, beer tent sets & bar tables
- Barbecues & deep-fat fryers
- Popcorn machine
- Fire pit
- Other event accessories available on request

Freshers’ Week
The first-year orientation week organised by the student body of the faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics is expected to take place this year from 5 October to 9 October 2026. The latest timetable for the Freshers’ Week programme will be published below shortly before the start of the semester. Keep up to date via our social media channels too.

Areas of Responsibility
Chairmanship
The Executive Board is responsible for the overall strategic management and coordination of the Faculty Student Council. In addition to preparing and chairing the weekly meetings, the Executive Board maintains an overview of all ongoing projects, represents the Faculty Student Council externally and works closely with the finance department.
Higher Education Policy (HoPo)
The HoPo member represents students’ interests on the committees of the academic and student self-governing bodies. The HoPo representatives actively campaign for improvements to teaching, study conditions and Examination Regulations.
Social Affairs
The Social Affairs' representative offers students confidential advice and support with personal or study-related challenges. Whether you have questions about organising your studies (transfer to or from another university, exam planning, etc.), need guidance on awareness issues, or simply need someone to listen – the representative can also refer you to specialised counselling services at the university if required.
