Project 1 (pro8)
Project 1 (pro8) takes place every year for students on the Bachelor's degree programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Rail Vehicle Engineering, and Engineering Management. This course is a compulsory module with project character, which is anchored in the 2nd semester of all Bachelor's degree programmes in the faculty (or in the 4th semester for industrial engineers).
An entire year of students work in competing teams on a proposed solution to a real-life problem. The respective task is set by a different industrial company each year, which also assesses the results and thus provides the students with re-registration. FB8 students from higher semesters (specialist coaches) and students from KatHo Aachen (team coaches) are available to support the teams. The professors provide support if required, but remain in the background.
Project 1 (pro8) in winter semester 2026/27
At the end of the winter semester 2026/27, "Project 1", hereinafter referred to as "pro8", will take place as every year for students on the Bachelor's degree programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Rail Vehicle Engineering, and Engineering Management. This course is a compulsory module with project character, which is anchored in the 2nd semester of all Bachelor's degree programmes in the faculty (or in the 4th semester for industrial engineers).
The project takes place from 22.-27. February 2027. It is a full-day event with compulsory attendance (including Saturday).
Attendance is also compulsory for the final event on Tuesday, 30 March 2027, from 1:00 p.m..

Award-winning project
"TEAMPLAY for the future!" was the motto of the German Employer Award for Education 2022, which will be presented at the German Employers' Day (DAT). The award recognises educational institutions that specifically promote joint learning and strengthen cohesion.
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics at FH Aachen applied with the pro8 project in 2022 and won the German Employer Award for Education in the "Higher Education" category (see FH Aachen press release).
