ROS 2017

6th ROS Summer School 2017

Our 6th ROS Summer School took place at the Aachen UAS from 14th August - 25th August, 2017.

The ROS Summer School covered common topics regarding mobile robotics:

  • Introduction to Mobile Robotics
  • ROS File System
  • ROS Communication
  • Hardware and Sensors
  • ROSSerial and Teleoperation
  • Image Processing with OpenCV & ROS
  • Landmark Detection
  • Localization and Navigation
  • Mapping
  • Introduction to SLAM Algorithms
  • Participation at Urban Challenge Competition

We used the middleware ROS (Robot Operating System) as standard Operating System for Robots. After having learnt the theory all topics were experienced on real hardware using our mobile robots developed at the Aachen UAS. In the end we had a competition where participants had to use their skills to program the robot to drive around a course.

Agenda of the 6. ROS Summer School, 14th-25th August, 2017:

  • Monday, August 14th: ROS Demo / Show, welcome BBQ
  • Tuesday, August 15th: ROS Basics: Navigating in Linux and ROS file system
  • Wednesday, August 16th: ROS Basics: ROS internal communication
  • Thursday, August 17th: Hardware interfaces, Transforms in ROS
  • Friday, August 18th: Introduction to GAZEBO simulator, AR tag recognition
  • Saturday, August 19th: Day trip to Paris (France)
  • Sunday, August 20th: Day at leisure
