Biomechanics laboratory
The Biomechanics Laboratory at FH Aachen is part of the Institute of Bioengineering (IfB) and a member of the Bioengineering Competence Platform, NRW. The core competencies of the Biomechanics Laboratory are material theory, the development and application of optimisation procedures in the finite element method (FEM) with a focus on the following areas:
- FEM simulation of bone remodelling processes and structural optimisation,
- multi-body simulation (MBS) of the musculoskeletal system and
- Load-bearing capacity and load-input analyses with a focus on "design according to analysis methods" and fracture mechanics.
Of particular note is the European project FEM-Based Limit and Shakedown Analysis for Design and Integrity Assessment in European Industry - LISA, which was coordinated by the Biomechanics Laboratory for the Jülich Research Centre (formerly KFA) and carried out jointly with Electricité de France (EDF) and Siemens/Framatome, among others. The LISA methodology will be further developed in future by an international team on the basis of Code_Aster.
