Maternity Protection for Female Students
The statutory provisions of the Maternity Protection Act guarantee the best possible health protection for pregnant and breastfeeding students and their unborn children. The regulations also provide for disadvantages due to pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding to be avoided or compensated for in order to create equal opportunities.
The information sheet on maternity protection explains what rights students have under maternity protection, what options are available during the special maternity protection periods and what the further formal procedure is.
Students are free to notify the university of their pregnancy. However, the university can only fulfil its duty of care if it has been informed by the student that she is pregnant or breastfeeding.
If a student decides to report her pregnancy, the "Notification of Pregnancy" form must be completed in full and submitted to the Family Office by email, post or in person.
Once the pregnancy has been reported, a formal risk assessment will be carried out on an individual basis and, if necessary, the study conditions will be adjusted. In this way, the university ensures that the health of the mother and child at the place at university is not jeopardised during pregnancy, after delivery and during the breastfeeding period.
Do you need further information or would you like support in organising your individual path during this special period of study? Then you are welcome to contact the Family Office.
