What Is the FH-Chatbot?

The FH-Chatbot is a user interface for accessing the ChatGPT Large Language Model at FH Aachen. The service is operated by the DVZ. Using an API interface, you can submit queries to ChatGPT – free of charge and in compliance with data protection regulations.

You can choose from various models, such as GPT-5 and others.

The FH-Chatbot can analyse and understand text, answer questions, write text and engage in human-like conversations. In the Conversation section, there is a chat function available where you can have any question or task answered.

Who Is the FH-Chatbot For?

The FH Aachen Chatbot is available to all members of the university community and students at FH Aachen. It is being rolled out in stages across the entire university (first to members of the university community, then to students).

How Do I Get Access to the Service?

https://chat.kiconnect.nrw Login

To log in, select FH Aachen as your institution and log in using your FH Identifier and password.

Prerequisite for Use

Basic AI skills are required to use the AI services at FH Aachen. To ensure safe and effective use, participation in one of the following free training courses is required:

For teaching staff https://ki-campus.org/courses/ki_fuer_lehrende

For administrative staff https://ki-campus.org/ki-hochschulverwaltung

The terms of use set out in the FH-Chatbot apply to ensure responsible use in accordance with data protection regulations.

What Should I Bear in Mind When Using It?

Content generated by the FH-Chatbot may contain errors, be distorted or even discriminatory. It should therefore always be checked against reliable sources. It is important that all users acquire the necessary skills in working with the language model and are aware of the limitations of chatbots.

The ability to generate high-quality texts also raises questions regarding academic practices and copyright. In the interests of good academic practice, it must be disclosed whether and how AI has been used.

When using the FH-Chatbot, data protection considerations must also be taken into account. No personal data is processed via the central API interface. As a general rule, users should refrain from entering sensitive, personal or copyright-protected information when using the FH-Chatbot.

Is My Data Secure?

Your data is not recorded through the centralised use of OpenAI’s API. OpenAI’s terms of use stipulate that (aggregated) queries via the API are stored for 30 days. This data is not analysed or used to improve OpenAI’s LLM (Large Language Model) and is deleted after 30 days. This represents a major advantage over the direct, personal use of ChatGPT. However, as a general rule, you should refrain from entering sensitive, personal or copyright-protected data when using the GPT-Lab.

Why Should I Use the FH-Chatbot Rather Than My Own Personal One?

For those who already have a commercial AI service, the FH-Chatbot may not offer anything fundamentally new. For everyone else, however, it provides a straightforward way to use a data protection-compliant chatbot to support their day-to-day work.

Typical use cases include drafting text, summarising, generating ideas and brainstorming.
