MINT - More Innovation for a New Tomorrow
Science, research and politics are working at full speed on a roadmap for the future in which a dignified life is possible worldwide while at the same time the natural foundations of life are permanently preserved and the climate and resources are protected.
FH Aachen, one of the most research-intensive universities of applied sciences in Germany, has also committed itself to these goals. Sustainability is a multi-dimensional concept consisting of ecological, economic and social factors. Accordingly, sustainability topics can also be found in the diverse research of the FH Aachen in all subject areas. Research projects in this spectrum are to be promoted in our project MINT - More Innovation for a New Tomorrow.
The promotion of young researchers, research infrastructure, the unbureaucratic continuation of expiring funding projects that are on the verge of a potentially groundbreaking result - we would like to make all of this possible together with you. The Sustainability Fund at FH Aachen can make research possible that makes our world a little better.

Patronage of the Sustainability Fund
Prof. Dr Ing. Kuperjans, Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation and Transfer, is a patron of the Sustainability Fund:
"With this commitment, I want to strengthen the visibility and impact of student and academic projects that make concrete contributions to ecological, social and economic sustainability. I am committed to promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, supporting innovation and permanently anchoring sustainable action in teaching, research and campus life."
Donate to the future. Enabling progress. Change the world.
Every euro counts. This is what your donation can achieve:
- With 1500 euros, for example, you make valuable laboratory equipment possible.
- With 7500 euros, for example, you finance a Graduate Assistant for one semester.
- With 10,000 euros, a 3D laser scanner could be purchased to advance autonomous driving in rail vehicle technology.

The WÄRM KOMP initiative as an exemplary research and teaching project
Linking the long tradition of Burtscheid's thermal water culture with modern social players
With money from the Sustainability Fund, the planning and construction of a public thermal bathing fountain, which is accessible free of charge and serves as a "real laboratory" for inter- and transdisciplinary work, is being driven forward.
Students from the fields of design/architecture, building materials science and microbiology are working together to develop and modify the aesthetic design as well as the hygienic safety and material behaviour of the fountain.
In order to meet the challenge of water hygiene, a new project phase has been initiated with money from the sustainability fund: New perspectives for the thermal bathing fountain.
The project thus vividly combines historical bathing culture, modern technology, ecological sustainability and social participation - a clear example of interdisciplinary work on a real, public infrastructure.
First round of fund allocation takes place
In general, sustainable research initiatives across all departments (list) are supported.
In addition, we are very pleased that we have been able to use a portion of the sustainability fund to support first-place winners of the research award and will continue to do so.
The FH Aachen Research Award recognizes outstanding achievements that incorporate sustainability aspects in the fields of research and development as well as design.
If the winners’ projects address the topic of sustainability in line with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), half of their funding is provided by the Sustainability Fund.

Evaluation methodology for sustainable development projects at FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences
Evaluation methodology for sustainable development projects at FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences
The Sustainability Fund is guided by the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are primarily political goals that need to be translated in an application-oriented manner and harmonised with the interests of the stakeholders: What specific contribution does, for example, the development of an innovative means of transport make to sustainable consumption and production, to sustainable cities and communities, to climate protection, etc.? ... ? But how convenient is its use in rural areas? This needs to be evaluated in an interdisciplinary way. To this end, an evaluation methodology is being developed which, on the one hand, explores the potential of a project with regard to the 17 goals and, on the other hand, also determines the specific practical benefits for the different customers or stakeholders. The more useful sustainable development is for them, the more successful and thus sustainable the result will be in application. The instruments required for this are being designed at FH Aachen and tested on the basis of the funded projects in order to be used for the assessment of funded projects in the fund.
