Intersektionalität
The term intersectionality describes different forms of discrimination that can be directed against a person at the same time. It is derived from the term "intersection", which means intersection or point of intersection. It refers to the interweaving of different social categories such as gender, sexuality, skin colour, religion, age and social origin. Consequently, different forms of discrimination such as racism, homophobia, anti-feminism, Ableism (= discrimination against people with mental or physical impairments or due to learning difficulties, cf. www. teilhabeberatung.de/woerterbuch/ableismus), sexism and ageism also overlap and intersect. Thus, an intersectional approach does not reduce inequality to one aspect such as gender, but looks at the interplay of many social categories.
