Entrance Exams
The Freshman Program offers online and in-person entrance exams. The two-hour entrance exam tests your knowledge of mathematics and the language required for your chosen track: English or German. All applicants must take an entrance exam or submit TestAS and a language certificate to be considered for the Freshman Program.
Prepare for the Entrance Exam
Math
Your knowledge of mathematics is tested in written form in about 45 minutes during the first part of the entrance exam.
Calculators are not allowed!
Prepare yourself well for the different math topics!

The exam will have 25 questions, including several word problems. The sample exams are to give you an idea of the structure of the exam; however, the questions on your exam may be from any of the topics listed below.

Language: English or German
The written part of the entrance exam, which tests your language skills, takes about 60 minutes.
Topics: grammar, vocabulary and essay writing
The oral part of the exam takes place at different times depending on the exam (online or in person). The interview lasts approximately 15 minutes.
If you apply for the German Track FeP, we will test your knowledge of German in the entrance exam.
If you apply for the English Track FeP or English to German Track (FH Aachen or University Duisburg-Essen), we will test your knowledge of English in the entrance exam.
Mathematics is always part of the entrance exam.
Requirements for Online Entrance Exams
If you have registered for an online entrance exam, you will receive detailed information about the exam process via email 2 weeks before the exam.
The online entrance exam is conducted with the support of the service provider ExamRoom.AI.
Exam Fee
- The online entrance exam costs US$ 47. You will be billed directly by ExamRoom.AI, the service provider for the exam
- Payment method: Credit card
Computer/Internet
- Internet connection 5 Mbps of upload/download speed
- Desktop or laptop computer with webcam
- Smartphone for 360 App of ExamRoom.AI
- Headset and Microphone
- Do not use institutional laptops or any computers for which you do not have administrative access
- You cannot take the exam using VPN (Virtual Private Network) or a mobile hotspot
- ExamRoom.AI is conducting the online exam. You can find more information about the requirements here.
Mobile Phone
- Before the exam: Please download the ExamRoom.AI App called "360" for exam day. The app is available in Google Playstore as well as Apple AppStore.
- Ensure you have the latest version of Chrome Browser and Android version 6 or iOS 13.0 or above on your mobile phone.
- On exam day: Your smartphone will serve as a second camera in the room and allow the proctoring agent a 360-view of your testing.
General Requirements
- You are not permitted to test in a car, bus, or other vehicle, or in an internet-cafe.
- You must be alone in the room during the exam.
- Calculators are not permitted.
- You are allowed to use a blank sheet of paper for notes during the exam.
TestAS
As an alternative to the entrance exam you can apply to Freshman Program with
- TestAS certificate
- official language certificate
In the Online Application Form you must check the box at the end of the form for an application with TestAS and upload the required documents in the according boxes:
- German language certificate for the German Track FeP
- English language certificate for the English Tracks

TestAS applicants for the Freshman Program must apply at the latest by 15 July.

International In-Person Exams
The Freshman Program offers in-person exams in various countries, e.g. China, Iran, Thailand, Turkey or the United Arab Emirates and many more.

Turkey
The next entrance exams in Turkey will be in the spring 2027. The applicants who are attending the 11th or 12th grade of high school may take the exam. Students in 12th grade may start the Freshman Program in October 2027. Students in 11th grade may start the program in October 2028.
