Tiefengeothermie Düren-Kreuzau
Duration: 01.03.2022 - 31.08.2023
Initial situation:
The Düren-Kreuzau site was selected for the MWIDE competition call "Heat from deep geothermal energy for NRW". NRW has good geological conditions for the use of deep geothermal energy. The task now is to record and analyse the needs of potential users along the Rur in order to create a coherent energy and heating concept for the region.
Can deep geothermal energy provide an additional source of energy for the industries in Düren and Kreuzau?
The project:
The preparation of a feasibility study for the development of deep geothermal energy with a multi-conductor district heating route for the heat supply of the paper industry, production plants and neighbourhoods in Düren-Kreuzau.
These are the focus of the supply, especially the paper industry along the Rur. By using a district heating route with several temperature levels (e.g. 40-60°C, 70-90°C and 100-120°C), it would be possible to connect the industry as well as existing and new local district heating networks and neighbourhoods.
By utilising the heat fed back in at the lower temperature level and the possible feed-in of process heat and solar thermal energy, a high degree of efficiency in heat utilisation could be achieved in the entire network area.
Objectives:
The aim of the project is to carry out a feasibility study for a heat supply based on deep geothermal energy for this region. The focus of the supply is on energy-intensive production plants along the Rur, as well as the development of an intelligent and flexible district heating network with different temperature levels.
The focus of our research will be on the synergy effect created by cascade utilisation and "heat recycling". This network will also offer participants the opportunity to feed heat into the network, such as process heat.
