AcDatEP
Duration: 01/2022 - 12/2024
Project description:
Municipalities now have numerous data sources from public institutions such as utilities and waste disposal companies, schools and universities and from building and planning authorities. Existing open data portals frequently exhibit deficiencies in terms of accessibility and usability of the data within the municipality and for external parties. This is attributable to various factors, including divergent data formats, inadequate data visualisation techniques, insufficient standardisation, and a lack of interfaces. Additionally, the measurement data exhibits a high temporal and spatial resolution.
Objective:
The objective of the project is the large-scale installation of a real-time recording system for traffic flow and a variety of other environmental parameters, including vehicle classification, in the Aachen area and the measurement of these over an extended period of time (see Fig. 1). The objective of this initiative is to collect these parameters and establish an open data basis that can be blended, combined and enriched with other existing data.
Implementation:
Based on the parameters recorded in the project and existing data from the City of Aachen's open data portal, various possible utilisation concepts for the data will be developed in several innovation workshops with and for citizens. Consequently, this initiative will empower both nascent enterprises and established stakeholders to engage with the data, thereby facilitating the exploration of novel business models and planning concepts and mobility concepts throughout the project's duration. Access to the data is facilitated by a geo-referenced presentation on the web. Firstly, a conceptual guideline for the visualisation, provision and possible use of municipal data for Aachen and elsewhere is being developed. Secondly, a guideline for a data-driven, environmentally sensitive mobility planning concept will be developed. Thirdly, municipalities of varying sizes stand to benefit from the proposed roadmap for the development of the open data pool approaches and methods developed in the project.
