Life Sciences
At FH Aachen, the complex interplay of biology, chemistry, physics, biomedicine and engineering sciences is united in our "Life Sciences" focus area for basic as well as applied research. This includes the Faculties of Chemistry and Biotechnology as well as Medical Engineering and Technomathematics. In addition, our researchers have joined forces in three institutes to conduct interdisciplinary research in the focus areas of bio- and polymer chemistry, medical and process engineering as well as biophysics, biotechnology and bioengineering.
Institute for Applied Polymer Chemistry (IAP)
The Institute for Applied Polymer Chemistry (IAP) at FH Aachen conducts research in the fields of polymer chemistry and plastics technology. Its research activities focus on sustainable polymer and hydrogel chemistry, nanoscale additives, rubber technology, plastics processing and recycling.
Institute for Bioengineering (IfB)
The Institute for Bioengineering (IfB) combines engineering and natural sciences and focuses on research and development work in the fields of biomedicine, biophysics, systems biology, process and systems engineering.
Institute for Nano- and Biotechnologies (INB)
In the Institute for Nano- and Biotechnologies (INB), our researchers deal with interdisciplinary research fields in biology and microelectronics, primarily in the areas of chemo- and biosensor technology, DNA sensor technology and nanostructures, optical micro- and nanosystems technology, semiconductor technology and nanoelectronics, cell culture technology, applied immunology, industrial microbiology, enzyme technology and biocatalysis.
