Electrical Engineering: FH or Uni?
Practical orientation and engineering training at the UAS or scientific and research orientation at the university? In the Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with orientation semester, students can test both university models for one semester.
Bachelor's degree programme in Electrical Engineering with orientation semester (ETOS)
The Bachelor's degree programme in Electrical Engineering with orientation semester is aimed at university entrants
- who are still unsure whether studying at RWTH or FH Aachen is the more suitable option for them personally
- who are not yet fully aware of the differences between the two study programmes
- who want to start their studies in the summer semester
- who prefer a slower start to their studies, as the (otherwise identical) achievements of the first semester of the B. Eng. Electrical Engineering are spread over two semesters
Students are registered as students at the UAS in the first semester and as cross-registered students at RWTH. In the first semester of the orientation programme, in addition to the subject-specific content, the different objectives of the two types of university are clarified, in particular the practical orientation with a focus on engineering training at the UAS and the scientific and research orientation at RWTH. At the end of the first semester, students must then decide on a university.
Degree
"Bachelor of Engineering" (FH Aachen) or "Bachelor of Science RWTH" (RWTH Aachen), equivalent to the degrees of the Electrical Engineering degree programmes at FH and RWTH Aachen without orientation semester, whereby the Electrical Engineering degree programme with orientation semester at FH Aachen concludes with 210 ETCS and thus also opens up the possibility of continuing with the Master's degree programme.
Organisational matters
- The prerequisite for this degree programme is either a certificate of general university entrance qualification or an entrance qualification for a university of applied sciences. It may also be possible to submit an application with a vocational qualification (e.g. a master craftsman's certificate or at least two years of vocational training and experience, see below). Applications for the Electrical Engineering degree programme with orientation semester are made online via the FH Aachen application portal. The programme can only be started in the summer semester. The application portal is open from mid-November to 28 February - Registration for the first semester takes place at FH Aachen. In order to complete the degree programme, parallel registration as a cross-registered student at RWTH Aachen University is required during the first semester (see click instructions for applying for cross-registration at http://www.rwth-aachen.de/zweithoerer)

Students who wish to continue their studies at RWTH after the orientation semester require a general university entrance qualification. Further information can be found at www.rwth-aachen.de/etos.
