Engineering Management - Sustainable Energy Systems B.Sc.

Helping to shape the energy transition

This degree programme will equip you to play an active role in shaping a sustainable and climate-neutral energy future as part of the energy transition, both locally and globally.
As a future industrial engineer specialising in sustainable energy systems, you will be able to analyse, design, conduct an assessment of and operate energy systems and enclosures in an energy-efficient, sustainable and economically viable manner.

To this end, we provide you with training in energy engineering, energy economics and energy informatics. This means that topics such as renewable energies, security of supply, smart grids and energy markets form the core of your degree programme.

You will analyse and perform assessment of complex energy systems and energy technologies, and in the process you will learn:

  • how to design, operate and conduct assessments of electricity and heating networks, as well as renewable and conventional energy converters, from a techno-economic and energy management perspective, and how to further develop them,
  • how security of supply can be ensured as the share of renewable energy increases,
  • how to analyse energy policy decisions and market developments, interpret their implications for industrial and energy companies, and use this to formulate and advocate for business decisions,
  • to make independent business and systems engineering decisions based on technical, economic and mathematical methods.

We place great importance on a practical focus in our degree programme. That is why, right from the first semester, we integrate project-based and practice-oriented elements into our modules, allowing you to apply and thereby consolidate your theoretical knowledge. Through case studies, project work and simulation games, for example, you will tackle real-world challenges facing the energy sector. You will mainly work in teams, including with students from higher semesters and industry representatives. Through small-group teaching formats, you will engage in direct interaction with lecturers, fellow students and professionals from the industry.

The “Industrial Engineering – Sustainable Energy Systems” degree programme achieved excellent results in this year’s CHE ranking: 4.4 out of 5 stars!
