Occupational fields
New energy providers
As a graduate, you will get off to a flying start with new energy providers. You will analyse the entire energy market and get new energy projects rolling. You will plan renewable energy plants such as wind farms and coordinate their construction. You will then be responsible for the technical and economic operation of the enclosures and market the energy generated.
Traditional energy companies and grid operators
You will develop new strategies and products for traditional energy companies and network operators (e.g. municipal utilities). Finally, you will accompany the projects from the initial idea through planning to realisation. You may also be responsible for looking after customers and selling your energy products.
Software houses & IT service providers
They digitalise the business processes of energy companies and grid operators with the help of new, creative solutions. This includes software development for controlling enclosures and grids, optimising operations, as well as for trading and marketing. You will support the implementation of the software on site as a customer advisor.
Planning & engineering offices
Industrial engineers specialising in sustainable energy systems are also employed in planning and engineering offices. Their tasks include, for example, planning and designing decentralised, renewable energy systems. You will be responsible for project development, construction and, ultimately, the management of energy systems. You will also advise local authorities and private individuals in the field of energy management.
Management consultancies
Are you looking for a professional challenge in dealing with customers? Then management consultancy could be the right field for you after graduating. You will advise energy companies, grid operators, authorities and ministries on the energy industry. You will analyse and assess energy markets and prepare expert reports for local authorities or energy companies. Does an energy infrastructure project promise to be successful? You will use your expertise to help answer this question.
Industrial companies
With your degree in Industrial Engineering - Sustainable Energy Systems, you will become an energy manager in the SME sector. Here you will consider where there is potential for optimisation in operations. You will be responsible for operational energy systems and supervise energy management systems. You will also negotiate and procure the required quantities of electricity, gas or heat for the company in which you are employed.
Authorities, associations
After completing your degree, you can also work as a Consultant for project organisers, regulatory authorities or ministries. Your tasks will then include reviewing and approving project applications. You can also work as a climate protection manager in local authorities or represent associations.
NGOs and foundations
Another way you can put your expertise to use after graduation: Get involved with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and foundations for a climate-neutral energy system. You could work as an Energy Consultant in the organisation of NGOs and foundations with a focus on energy systems and climate protection.
