Kaan Goezler, Engineering Management

When I found out about the  Engineering Management (B.Sc.) degree programme at FH Aachen, I quickly realised that it was tailored to my area of interest. As a technology-enthusiastic student from Aachen with grades in the middle range, I didn't dare to study purely mechanical engineering at the time. However, a degree programme combining business administration and mechanical engineering quickly won me over due to the wide range of applications of both disciplines. In addition, studying combined subject areas gave me the flexibility to discover my areas of interest during my studies and to focus on my strengths accordingly over the course of my degree programme.

And that's exactly how it turned out! In the early semesters of my Engineering Management degree programme, I realised quite quickly that I would specialise in technical sales. My professors also helped me on this path. Specialising in technical sales allowed me to ideally combine my open-mindedness in dealing with people with my technical affinity.

During the course of my studies, I also completed a study abroad programme. With the support of the International Faculty Office of FH Aachen, in particular Mr Oliver Fuchs, I studied for 2 semesters at the partner university "Universidad de Monterrey" in Monterrey (Mexico). By successfully studying abroad, I was not only able to develop my skills in a new language, but also to expand my knowledge of people and culture, which still characterises me today. That's why I can only recommend a semester abroad to anyone!

In the final stages of my studies in Engineering Management, I was recommended for an internship at Faymonville AG, a heavy transport trailer manufacturer in Luxembourg, thanks to the close cooperation between FH Aachen and industry. I used this practical training to write my bachelor's thesis on a practical topic. It was very fitting that the company wanted to open up new markets at that time. Due to my chosen specialisation in sales engineering and my experience abroad in Mexico, I was able to write my bachelor's thesis on the interesting topic of "Market entry in Latin American countries".

After successfully completing my final thesis, Faymonville gave me the opportunity to join as Area Sales Manager for Latin America. I took advantage of this opportunity and have been able to build up a sales and after-sales network in my sales territories to date.

As a personal goal to continue my academic development complementary to my Bachelor's degree, I also completed a Master's degree programme in Product Development (M.Eng.) at FH Aachen alongside my job. Thanks to the support and understanding of the professors, I was able to master these two challenges - starting a job while studying for a Master's degree - very well.

Looking back on my studies, I can only say that it was the right decision to take this path. Because the close connection between sales and development is absolutely fundamental to my everyday sales work today. As every project in my job has a different level of complexity and it is almost impossible to establish routines, strong collaboration is required between Sales and Product Development in particular.

I was only able to find the right academic path for me thanks to the high-quality support of the teaching staff at FH Aachen. In addition to the intensive support I received from the faculty's professors, I owe this positive experience in large part to Professor W. Reichert. He was a strong mentor from the beginning of my Bachelor's programme, through my semester abroad, to my Master's thesis. Without his guidance, some decisions would have been difficult to make!
