Working as a Business Lawyer
As a business lawyer, you work at the interface between business and law. It is not possible to work as a lawyer or judge; for this you must complete a traditional law degree. Your future employers will be in the industrial, commercial and service sectors. In addition to working in typical companies, it is also possible that you will work for a tax consultancy and auditing firm, management consultancy, bank, insurance company, credit institution, financial services provider, business association or chamber, real estate company or public administration. If companies are insolvent and go bankrupt, this is called insolvency. This is handled by a state-appointed insolvency administrator, who ultimately decides whether the company is to be reorganised or dissolved. You can provide support here and, if necessary, take over this office yourself later on. Working as a business lawyer is a good alternative for you if you are interested in legal areas but do not want to work as a lawyer or judge and you also want to deal with economic issues.
After graduating, you will be qualified to prepare and implement commercial processes and business decisions on a legal level.
The Tasks of Business Lawyers are very Diverse:
- Drafting of contracts of all kinds (e.g. purchase agreements, rental agreements, contracts for work and services, loan agreements and employment contracts)
- Contract management, e.g. preparing the conclusion of contracts
- Tasks in connection with the takeover or dissolution of a company
- Conducting negotiations, e.g. with suppliers and customers
- Contact for legal issues
- Legal support for national and international projects
- Settlement of claims and drafting of contracts and tariffs with insurance companies
- Supervision of competition, trademark and licensing law matters
- Tasks in the field of tax planning and tax consultancy
- Cooperation and independent assumption of insolvency administrations
This exemplary list shows that you can take on demanding professional and management tasks after graduation.
