CHE University Ranking (ZEIT)

Electrical Engineering: In the student survey, FH Aachen was among the top universities in all 12 categories. For example, students awarded a grade of 1.3 (2019: 1.4) in the categories of study organisation, 1.4 (2019: 1.5) for the general study situation, 1.5 (2019: 1.6) for supervision, 1.5 (2019: 1.6) for practical relevance and 1.5 (2019: 1.9) in the category of courses offered. This means that students are even more satisfied than in 2019, despite or perhaps because of the good handling of teaching adjustments due to the pandemic. The digital teaching elements category was examined for the first time and assessed at 1.5. And even in times of distance learning, 96% of the students surveyed rated the social climate between students and lecturers as good or very good. 95% attested that the qualifications taught were equally relevant to occupational fields and practice.

Informatics: In the student survey, FH Aachen was in the top group in all 13 categories. In all areas surveyed, the grades awarded were better than 1.7. In the category of courses offered (grade 1.6), over 90% of respondents rated the possibility of individual specialisation in the degree programme and the breadth of content of the courses offered as good or very good. In the support category (grade 1.6), 97% of respondents rated the FH Aachen as having a good or very good social climate between students and lecturers. The proportion of good or very good assessments was particularly high in the category of career guidance programmes. 95% rated the occupational fields and practical relevance of the qualifications taught as good or very good. Almost 100% of respondents rated the availability of subject-specific software on campus as good or very good. Only the timing of examination dates and access to courses and lectures, e.g. length of waiting times, are slightly below the average for all universities*.

Business Informatics: the degree programme was launched at FH Aachen in 2016 and was ranked by CHE for the first time in 2020. In the student survey, FH Aachen landed in the top group of the universities surveyed in the following categories: Support from teaching staff Rooms, IT infrastructure and Library were assessed as good or very good.

The factual indicators attest FH Aachen a place in the top group with 10 out of 12 possible points in the area of support at the start of studies. The Bachelor of Science in Business Informatics with practical semester programme came out on top in the category of contact with professional practice.

Both faculties involved are actively working on further improving the degree programme, which is currently in its first run, on the basis of student feedback.

System accreditation

WHAT DOES SYSTEM ACCREDITATION MEAN?

Since 1 October 2021, FH Aachen has had what is known as "system accreditation" - i.e. permission to establish and further develop degree programmes on its own initiative. If a university has achieved system accreditation, it can accredit its degree programmes on its own initiative. The Accreditation Council thus certifies the function and acceptance of the quality management system (QMS) for teaching and learning at FH Aachen. The QMS of the FH Aachen includes, among other things

  • the advisory and development function of the Centre for University Didactics and Quality Development (ZHQ)
  • a system of quality development and quality assurance for the continuous examination of the topicality and quality of study programmes
  • Curriculum workshops
  • the "Teaching Mission Statement" as a concrete frame of reference for monitoring success
  • Bundling of all activities in the evaluation and accreditation cycle
  • Structurally integrated assessment by external experts
